    New 3D venue, Sure Shots Archery Club, Gatesville,TX!

    A couple buddies and myself went up to Gatesville to the new range opened by Sure Shots Archery Club. Sure Shots is a 4H club and is hosting monthly shoots to raise money for their 4H program. The range was great and set up real well.

    Their shoots are on the 3rd Saturday (most of them) instead of Sunday. Lets get all the trad force out there and support them.

    Here is a 2013 shoot schedule:

    January 19th
    February 16th
    March 16th
    April 6th (4-H District 8 3D Invitational, 4-H members only)
    April 20th
    May 4th
    July 6th & 7th (Texas ASA State Qualifier)
    September 21st
    October 19th
    November 16th

      I know y'all were there. I wanted to shoot with y'all but I guess Larry did not want to shoot with me and made y'all go ahead and start before we got there!

              Hello guys , I'm wanting to get into these types of venues heavy this year. What does a day at such a place cost? This will be my first year to get out of the back yard and start meeting some of you guys in the field.

                Mitch, are you a trad shooter or compound. I see you are in Lago Vista. There is a shoot nearly every weekend somewhere around here and a group of us trad guys get together and go.


                Shoot fees vary. Traditional Bowhunters of Texas shoots are only $10 per round. Other shoot fees range from $7/round to $20/round depending on the club and whether you are a member of that club or not. Pretty cheap entertainment for a day of complete fun!

                  Those folks in Gatesville are developing a pretty darn'd good course. It's apparent that a lot of the 4H kids are putting time in after school making that range a great place to shoot. Nice paths cleared through the woods, rock lined trails, backstops built behind targets where a miss might cost you at the least quite a bit of time to find it, at worst your arrow doesn't go home with you. Kudo's to the 4H club for all their hard work to give us another local shoot!

                    Excellent, that is great to hear, as the wife was anticipating another strain on the family budget due to my endless pursuit of hunting related fun. Bisch, I'm 100% recurve and long bow, I shoot Bear equipment right now. I met you out at Double D a while back and am struggling to get back out there after work, but would like to hook up with you guys some time. Headed out of State for a few weeks, maybe when I get back. If its like the venue in Spicewood this year it will be worth every penny, that course was great. Thanks for the info.

                      Fellows, I'm new to this forum and to Texas. I'm a NYer but spend the winter here in Buda, 1/2 hour south of Austin. I would appreciate any info on outdoor 3D shoots in the area. So far I've had no luck locating any. I am willing to travel some. Thanks, Frank.

                          Gatesville is a really great range! Our group had a great time and as Rob said, there has been lots of work done on that range! There are only 2 draw backs that I can see at this time, the Saturday only shoots and when it gets warm it's gonna be a killer on old fat guys like me!lol Guess I better start exercising!

                            Larry, I'm kinda liking the Saturday schedule. There is already another club shooting on the 3rd Sunday and this way a guy can shoot either day he is free.
