It is always a relief to get the first deer of the season. I have hinted this stand four times this season. The first attempt a group of doe came right right at dawn but spooked when the feeder went off. Next two trips i saw nothing. this morning was the right trip! Feeder went off before the deer arrive. Biggest doe gave me a quartered away shot at 20 yards. I felt really good about the shot but we put a new young hound on the trail for him to get some work. He kept coming back to us so we thought perhaps there was a problem. After walking about 40 yards we found her piled up and realized the hound had gone to her three or four times but didn't know what to do when he got there. He will learn.
