Hogs and javelina at First Point.

Planning a trip there in March. Would any of you know how the hog and javelina hunting has been?

We were there in January deer hunting and some hogs were killed. They are scattered all over the ranch. Javilinas were only seen in a few pastures. Pasture 6 and the pastures that surround it had a bunch.

      Thanks BIG D,
We were there last March and I never saw one pig. Saw alot of javelina in pasture 8. It rained the last night we were there and the hogs rooted up all around camp. While we were sleeping, they were having a party just right outside. Never heard them.

In 2006 we were there in November and we tailgate fed the road coming into camp. I shot a hog from camp one night with everyone outside by the fire talking and making all kind of racket.

We have also shot them in the grey water run off behind the cabin 1 and 2 trailer.Try to stay in cabin 5 and throw corn outside the window. Shoot them from your bed.

I just got back yesterday. We had a group of 11 there from Friday noon through Monday noon. 6 shots fired, one hog and one javelina where harvested. A group of 20-30 javelina were seen in section 8, otherwise a total of around 10 other javelina were seen scattered across the other sections. We saw probably 10 hogs total scattered across the ranch. With the exception of one javelina, all hogs and javelina where seen after 5:30 in the evening.

The ranch is extremely dry, most of the hogs and javelina where seen within a half mile radius of the two tanks that are still holding some water.

I would suggest bringing a large amount of corn. Between myself and two other people we feed a thousand pounds over three days. As soon as you feed the deer clean it off. We were corning intersections where you could see several hundred yards in multiple directions, and would see 30+ deer per hunt.

My recommendation would be to go during a full moon and feed just before dark, then hope that the hogs start moving before the deer eat all of your corn. Also don’t forget to spread your corn thin.

we saw 12 more WT does and rack trophy buck. As we drove out SAT evening.. we saw a dozen javis and the little girl made a stalk but gave up too soon A great hunt

Arrived at the ranch around noon on Friday and our group of 6 were the only ones at the ranch. We got our paperwork done and since we were the only group there he assigned each one of us a different pasture. We unloaded everything and went out on a feed run and then returned to camp and got ready to hunt.I dropped my brother off and then went down to a intersection where i could see 3 roads.I had only been down there a few minutes when 2 groups of javelina of about 30 total came out about 50 yards from me.When i started removing my bow sling to put the sneak on them i realized my quiver was not on my bow and my arrows were back at camp I watched them feed away for about 20 minutes and then thought i can go back and get my arrows without messing up anyones hunting and then come back down another road which would put me on the downwind side. After getting my arrows i was headed back down the other road and there was 2 javelina in the road.I put the sneak on them and had a good shot at the little one at 15 yards but the bigger one was blocked by brush. They got nervous and moved off so i took off after the initial group. When i arrived at the end of the road they were nowhere to be seen.I started down that way and they came out of the brush and started feeding toward me.I backed off in the brush and shot this one.

I also shot a feral hog but hit it a little high and couldn't find it.This javelina was killed by another in our group.

We saw most of the javi's in pasture 6 & 8. We saw the hogs in pature 9 and a few in pasture 8......If anyone is looking for a very reasonable priced hunt this is the place to go...The housing was comfortable. That is worth the cost of the hunt by itself..........
