    rage broadheads

anyone ever had trouble with rage broadheads not opening

    #2
Yes, any mechanical has the possibility of not opening. Thats why I choose to shoot fix blade BHs.

I have never had a problem with them opening, The real problem with them is keeping them closed. I actually add a small rubber band like one used for braces to help keep them closed prior to the shot. I think there would have to be something stuck in the blades to keep them from opening and that is why I open every set of blades to make sure they open without any problems before I take them to the woods. Heck, I use used expandables for shooting coons that I have to take a pair of pliers to to get closed and it takes a lot of force to get them to open and they still open every time on coons. I have shot well over 200 animals with expandables and never had one fail to open, I guess it could happen but it has never happened to me or any of my buddies.

I usually have the opposite problem with Rage. They tend to open when I don't want them to, like when I bump a tree limb or blind window while preparing for the shot. I fixed it with some heavier o-rings, but probably sacrificed a little bit of the dependability.

ETA: The three blades are bad about not opening, but the two blades have always opened for me.

2 blades have always opened for me, the o rings break instantly but you dont need them anyways.....They shoot the exact same without them

Never had 1 problem with 'em except that I don't get to work on my trackin skills because everything I shoot with 'em dies so quick...

I do change the O-rings before every season whether they need it or not and I don't use a quiver with foam in it.

No problems here. I love the things. Animals go down quick, full pass thru always. I always make sure the blades are well seated on the o-ring and will not open when I shake the arrow. They will grab a lot of stuff if you have material or burlap. The rear of the blades will grab clothing, limbs, anything and the broadhead will open on you.

Replace the O-rings after each shot and your good to go. I just used one broadhead on 3 pigs without doing anything but washing them off just to see the outcome and they performed flawless with complete pass throughs. 5 pigs took a rage and none went more than 15-20 yards. Their will always be the ones who questions the mechanical's and thats fine, everyone is entittled to their choice but I have used all different types of mechanicals over the last 12 years and some were just bad designs and didnt work well but if used and set up properly the Rage's are fool proof. I feel 99% of the problems with them were user error and not design problems. Fixed blades have their place but for southern sized game animals they cannot be beat IMO, the damage they create is outstanding and with a properly placed shot their will be little if any tracking.

Always opened up for me. And never had a problem with them opening up early either.

Ive had good ones and bad ones. The first package I bought was a bust. All 3 had a problem, one didn't open, one opened on one side I guess and went all crazy flying through the air and the last one opened and when I picked up the arrow the pin fell out along with the blades. I contacted them and they sent me a new package. Since then they have all worked fine, even using them several times on different animals. I now use only fixed so I don't have to worry about if it is going to work or not.

I've only shot two pigs so far with a Rage 2 blade (and one cedar branch). All with the same one. I've resharpened and killed again with it. I'm saving the other two for something special. If you want a hole like this in a pig, get a Rage.
