    There's been a THEFT at LBJ.........and

I have met several of the TBH'ers that hunt at LBJ and this is for them to help me keep an eye out for a thief.
A few weeks ago I met a young man who goes to school at UNT, works part time, and bowhunts when he can (this is his first year!). He hunts the section behind Cottonwood Lake/Creek(no the NW side) with the 2 equestrian trails that border the private property. He had just bought a brand new Summit Viper climbing stand and last week was in it hunting when he received an emergency phone call from his job to come in and help and being of the concientious mindset that good sportsmen are, he went in to help on the run. But seeing as he couldn't carry ALL OF HIS BELONGINGS in one trip he decided to leave his treestand----HIDDEN-----on the ground. (I know where he hunts and it is a hike ----about a mile one way!)
He returned Saturday morning to hunt and of course discovered his treestand gone.
I am requesting that the other TBH'ers who will be there for the gun season----and there's a bunch of us I know!---to keep our eyes and ears open for anyone who has one (minus backpack straps) brand new for sale, or use or whatever who might possibly have come by it illegally and to let me know........I'd appreciate it very much.

A thief is one of the lowest of God's creatures. I don't like hearing we have one running loose in the Grasslands.

I will keep an eye out at the grasslands but as you know it is gone. I rarely hear of anyone getting their stuff back when someone takes it. Once we had camp thieves that would come into your camp after you have gone out hunting. This has stopped I think, I haven't heard of any camps being hot lately.

Pat, I feel your pain. I had two feeders stolen last year by thieves, one at Ft. Hood and one at Lake Georgetown (yes, both were legally placed and marked).

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend's stuff, it's bad apples like that ruin hunting for the rest of us.

Hey, did you check the ranger's station or alongside the road? Maybe someone saw it, assumed it was placed illegally since your friend wasn't there and turned it in to a Ranger or Game Warden? I've heard that some folks take it upon themselves to police public land like that.

It really sucks, those things aren't cheap and tough to come by on a budget.

That's no good for sure. I hope he finds it soon.

I had told him to go to the maintenance yard off of US 287 and check with them as they sometimes pull stands and keep them there. He of course said he would but I just get the feeling thats not the case.
I'd still appreciate it if you all would keep your eyes and ears open-many thanks.

I don't know what the rules state out at LBJ, but were I hunt on corp of engineers property around aquilla lake the rules specifically state you must carry out everything you carried in, no leaving stands. Its pretty much common knowledge if you leave anything out on corp land it becomes public property, the rangers out there even encourage bringing stands left in the wood to the corp office. I'm not justifying what the thief did, just emphasizing that maybe your friend should have been more careful.

At LBJ stands are allowed to be up for 72 hrs, then must be removed or moved to another spot. Per the regs.

If I hear anything, I will absolutely speak up- that is wrong.

Get this, I talked to a guy today who had TWO stands stolen today on whitney corp property. Said he went to hunt this morning only to find his first setup stolen, so he goes back to his truck to get his expensive aluminum stand and set up a spot for this evening. Well someone apparently was watching and when he went to hunt this evening his masterlock had been cut and stand was GONE. Talk about a sh*tty day, but hey thats public land.

I learned a long time ago to packin and out. Never leave anything behind for 2 reasons..1) it gives the spot away 2) you risk it getting stolen. I don't even leave stuff in the truck like if i get a deer and go get my bike..I don't leave my stand and bow at the truck...it will be broken into and stolen.

A little extra work and sweat but that don't hurt as much as some sob stealing my stuff...It would be hard not to arrow some assh*le if I caught them in the act.

Only one thing I hate more than a thief......
