Sold my training wheels and got a recurve.

Well I finally decided to shoot traditional. I sold my Switchback, and ordered a Chekmate recurve.

I realized that I couldn't get good with my current recurve if I could just pick up my compound whenever I wasn't shooting my trad bow very well.

Please bear with me when I ask a ton of stupid questions.

If they didn't bear with people asking a ton of questions, I would have been outta here a LONG time ago! Congrats. I did the same last year then had a weak moment and bought another compound. I am working up the gumption to sell this one now but when I do, I will be buying a Widow or a Sarrels longbow before I have a chance to change my mind!!!

Good luck with it, been thinking about doing the same. Think I will need my training wheels though in New Mexico.

While at this point I will probably always have a compound, I am captivated more and more when shooting my long bow. I know I will probably move more and more to the traditional side as I go along and maybe one day not own a wheeled bow.

Good luck with it Dahmer, it is addicting.

One day I threw my compound in the closet. I gave it away a few months later. Except, when I quit the compound I was "done" with bowhunting. About the same time I gave my compound away a friend asked me to try a recurve. I broke it about 6 months later and bought a longbow. I've since bought 2 more recurves and a handful or two longbows. I still use the first longbow in preference.

If you want to shoot a tradbow, shoot a tradbow. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Yep, sold my compound over a year ago......

Have bought and sold WAY more trad bows than I will ever admit to since then...

I would have no problem getting another compound, but my heart is 100% into traditional bows right now....

Tracy (LostHawg) can definitely help point ya in the right direction if ya ever need any help. He has sure helped me a TON the past couple of years.....

I gave up compounds 23 years ago. About 15 years ago I lived in the Dallas area, I get home from work and laying on the bed was a wood riser Browning compound, I pick it up and was drawing it then SNAP the riser broke. My future ex wife gets home and I ask her who's bow that is on the bed, she tells me its a teachers at school and they wanted to know if it was safe to shoot. I told her no.

With me I came to realize that I could have a nice recurve if I sold the mathews. so thats what I did. Heck it was just gitt'n dusty up on that hook anyway.

Dahmer: There are no stupid questions. I started in this stuff about thirty years ago and there was no one to ask. I had to make every mistake you could possibly think of in order to get where I could hunt with it.
The nice thing about this thread is, there is someone one here that will be able to answer just about any question you have.
I can remember the time when I didn't even know the question to ask. But as time went on I did determine a few things that work.
Just ask away when the time comes and we will try to help.
Good luck with your new toy and I can guarantee you that it will be fun. Just don't get in a big hurry to get proficent, just take your time and it will come.

No truer words were ever spoken. Most give up without giving themselves adequate time to learn what their individual needs for shooting a traditional bow accurately are.

JUst remember helping yourself will be developing good form and always keep your target in the sight window and tune your arrows. I shot a compound all the way up to the 1st day of bowseason 20 years ago and I broke my bow in camp and never got to bowhunt. Swore off compounds and begin shooting a recurve 5-6 years ago. I have 5 recurves now.
