Default Fleas in yard!!!!????

Put out the tick and bug killer every spring and it works. For some reason it worked on everything but the fleas this year. Any suggestions?

spray demon, then spray again for the next flea hatch and they'll be gone.

I've called in a chemical strike on the backyard three times so far this year. Twice on the inside of the house. The dogs get bathed weekly. I think we finally can breathe easy for a while.

i use Diatomaceous earth....my dad is a sales rep. for a pool/spa chemical company and he gets this stuff...its a filter aid but when you pour it out on your lawn and fleas and other small insects crawl over it it cuts them up and they die! I believe its crushed up oysters

We used to do the all organic program in the yard until several years ago...........

I walked out into the yard one day and on the way in I thought I had some how gotten my socks dirty.........only to look down and see them covered with fleas !!!

I HATE FLEAS......!!!

Like the poster above I called "Broken Arrow" and had massive ordnance dropped on my pod. All the fleas on the property died in a holocaust of chemicals!!!

Beneficial nematodes...no fleas, grubs and they are all natural.
I put these out every year and have yet to have a flea or grub problem.
You can get them at any "reputable nursery" not home depot or lowes.

For those asking about where to get this stuff.... go to a large feed store, ranch supply store type place.
If you have a farmers co-op near by they can hook you up with whatever you need.

If you have fleas you might want to break down and call in the professionals. They have the good stuff and as others have said, you have to treat a second time after the eggs hatch. Fleas are haaaaaard to get rid of completely unless you do it right. Call in the big boys (exterminators) and knock them out. It is worth the money.

When ever our dog gets fleas I spray the yard with nematodes. They usually last 3-4 years. Funny thing is I can just over spray into the neighbors yard and take out his flea problem too.

Save yourself a lot of money and get some Malathion and a 2 gallon sprayer and do it yourself!! You'll save a ton over calling someone out and kill all them critters. I get the 55% at my feed-store and mix 3 oz. per gallon. Put the dogs up until dry and they're good. Spray yard, house, eves and overhangs.

I can buy a 2 gallon sprayer and a bottle of the 55% Malathion for a lot less than an exterminator.

I 2nd the Demon WP. I get it at Katy Chemical on I-10 and Mason. They are a pool supply store. Mix 1 oz to gallon for inside and 2 oz gallon for outside. It is a white powder you mix with water no odor.

The dog we use Front Line once a month just put the drip on the fur on the back of their neck. Growing up we use to go to the sulfur pits in Damon and let the dogs swim in the water. Their coats would look better and no fleas.

I prefer liquid Dursban, I mix a little on the heavy side and you should be good to go. Spray early spring and again in middle of summer.

I always spread a little lime into the yard just after I mow the lawn. Was given this idea years ago and every year I do the same and no problems. Just make sure you dont spread too much as it will FRY your grass. " sprinkle" like a light dusting.

Malathion in an Ortho sprayer hooked up to the water hose. No more bugs period. You can get it at Lowes or H Depot. I used to use it for my plants but found after spraying the Greenhouses that nothing lives. Great stuff. Even kills wasps and yellow jackets. Found that out last week. You can get a quart to cover about 5000 sq/ft for about $8.

Demon WP comes in a package with 4 water soluble packs inside. Use two packs to a gallon of water...Problem with Demon is that it doesn't cover much area.

Go you a good feed store and get Hi-Yield 55% Malathion...and go ahead and buy the Quart Bottle.....

Buy a Gilmour Airmatic sprayer that you attach to the water hose and any Hi-Yield bottle (Brown with Yellow and Red Labels) will screw on to that sprayer ...set it on 2 and spray your yard.

Make sure that your grass is cut and then spray.

You should know that Malathion is mixed 2 1/2 ounces to a gallon of water to 1000 square feet, so a quart should cover about 12,800 square feet. A normal sized city lot is 5-7 K square feet, so that gives you an idea of how much you'll need.

Repeat every 7 - 10 days, as the eggs and larvae that are in the grass won't be killed by Malathion.

Keep the kids and dogs off of it until it dries and when you're done with the quart, you'll have it in good shape in no time.

Hi-Yield also makes a product called Garden, Pet and Livestock Spray that is Permethrin and it has labeling and mixing instructions to make a dip for your dog, as well as a spray for the yard and it works good.

Buy Bio-Spot for your dog and stripe that stuff between the shoulder blades every 3-4 weeks and you're good to go. If you have two dogs and stripe them both, you need to separate them so that they don't lick that stuff off of each other or you might have a problem.

Respectfully submitted....

Feed Store owner and resident fleaologist....

x3. I had them so thick in my outdoor kitchen last year my legs would turn black when I walked in. It took about 2 weeks spraying every other day but it cleaned them out. I tried everyting on the market and this was the only thing that worked for me. You can get a pint size bottle forabout $50 buck and it should last you about 2 years.

I also get fleas in my yard this time of year. i sprayed 10% permethrin in my yard. you can buy it along with a garden hose sprayer at your local coop. Repeat the step in 7-14 days and your flea problem is over. it is quick and easy. i think the bottle i bought is around $15.00 and covers around 8,000 sqare foot. I will have to look at the size of bottle i use.
