Price of a metal roof vs shingle roof?

what is the difference in price of a metal roof vs shingle roof. 24x27' Roof is installed just waiting on shingles or metal. Our shingles are lifetime shingles but they don't make them any more.

Not sure the price difference but we're putting metal on the roof of the house we're about to build. I don't know a single builder that recommends shingles. I know shingles are cheaper than metal.

If they're "lifetime" shingles, why are you replacing them? Go metal

I've been getting estimates since we had hail damage earlier this month and the metal prices have been double the price of a "limited" lifetime shingle

            24x27 straight gable

            (7) squares of Limited Lifetime Elk/GAF Timberline
            (1) square matching 3-tabs for starter course and ridge
            (4) rolls 30# felt
            (11) 1x2 metal edge

            = $790ish

This is off the top of my head, I don't have access to current field metal & trim where I'm at right now.

I wouldn't even consider any thing other than a tin roof for my house.

Price of a metal roof vs shingle roof?

On my upcoming house budget I was quoted $135/square for shingles and $400+/square for standing seam metal.

I calculated it for our roof recently and it would be around $4600.00. I thought that was fair. You can place metal rooves over your exisiting shingles. No need to remove them, unless you want to.
