Default Mathews chill problems

Just thought I would pass this along. I have had 2 brand new chills in the past week and a Half. The first one cracked a limb b4 I had ever shot it the first time I drew it back. The second cracked a limb with less than 100 shots through it.

Off to find a new bow. Hoyt or elite here I come.

Mathews is a sponsor on this site. This really surprises me. I guess I don't blame you for giving up on them, but Mathews has always had good limbs. What are you going to do with your Chill?

Good luck, use to there were only 2 makers of limbs, Gordon Glass and Barnesdale that supplied all the bow makers. Don't know if it has changed or not. If this is not right please correct me, I like to try and stay updated as possible.

Welcome to the hoyt family! Haha! But seriously, I've heard of a couple other ppl with the same problem, and they got new bows for free from mathews. Maybe just try contacting them or trying to get a fair trade for a new creed

I am sure they all have their problems. I have owned three Mathews and had to replace limbs on two of them! I am curious as to how many limb makers there are as mentioned earlier. It seems as if everyone is pushing everything to the extremes of the components and I guess that is what you get!

Mathews has a lifetime warranty on the limbs if you are the original owner, I have owned a mathews for over 10 years and never had an issue with customer service in fact I cracked a limb on my MQ-1 several years ago and took it in and they replaced the limbs for 150 which wasn't bad since I was the second owner of the bow. Call Mathews and let them make it right, if they don't then switch

The problem with them making it right is what tells me that it won't happen again. It happened this time at the deer lease b4 I was about to go pig hunting. I leave for Colorado in a few weeks. Not sure how Mathews would make it right if it happens on the side of a mountain

I guess with any new bow you have to shoot it a while before you can trust it on the side of a mountain. I've never had a problem with any of my Mathews bows, and would trust each of them, and have. I think it's very concerning that you've had two sets of limbs go south so soon. Mathews needs to get a handle on this in short order, and someone from Mathews needs to jump in this thread quickly. If they've got a problem with their limbs, or their overall design, they better get it corrected.

Bad luck I guess haha. So they just cracked like that? No drops or banged around in the truck? Or have the limbs tightned down past the max point? That seems weird that the limbs would just crack during a shot for no reason.

Not true. Shot hoyt for years when I first started bow hunting. Then shot a pse for a very short time. Then became a Mathews fan. But know that has ended as well. I had some bad customer service and got so ****** off I started shooting a long bow. Now I make my own bows. Good customer service is hard to find now days. Good luck with your bow, and I hope they take care of it.

Get a elite and be happy. I have yet to find a Mathews I like. I've had a switch back xt, Reezen and a z7 extreme. Now I shoot a elite z28 and like it a lot. Can't beat the elite warranty either.

If you're not a speed freak, there's not a smoother bow than the Elite Hunter. Rock solid backwall and smooooooooth draw. You have to shoot it to see what I'm talking about.

How light of an arrow are you shooting??
You have to be shooting a heavy enough arrow to absorb all that energy or any limbs will blow up.
I have had my chill for 3 months and its the best mathews I've owned.

Good luck

Ok, so I am a Hoyt freak, but the only bow I have shot recently that I enjoyed as much as a Hoyt was the bowtech experience. Doesn't get much smoother

Shooting 440 grains plenty heavy. I did not drop either bow did not dry fire them and did nothing that should make a limb crack.

No drops or anything. And not real sure how you tighten a bow past the max point since they bottom out. I've never owned a bow that I didn't shoot bottomed out.

Could it be possible that the shop you purchased it at is not pressing the bow properly during set/tuning? We use the Xpress for pretty much everything in our shop and have never had a single issue with the new Mathews Bows. Mathews recommends that you back the limbs out 4 turns on all models before pressing. Sounds weird to me for two bow to break like that.

I would be highly surprised if it was bc of the bow press. David has been doing this a long time. I figure I just got a bad batch.

Those limbs were cut from the same piece of glass that a hand full of bows were produced from. When your shop called Mathews concerning your bow(s) they asked for their serial#(s).Had there been a batch issue they would know about it by now and would have made the situation right. I'm sure your shop has a great staff of technicians, but 2 bad sets of limbs on two of the same bow model in a row is something I've never seen before, especially with a new Mathews. But you know your shop better than me, so I believe you when you say there good and know there stuff. Not trying to rule out a bad batch but that would be the last thing I would consider.
