Default New RV problems

I picked up my new camper on Tuesday and on the way home noticed a problem with the roof. So I take it back on Saturday and was told it needs a new roof and I'm not very happy about it. What can I do I did purchase the camper but I don't feel that a camper that I haven't used yet and had a problem on the first day of ownership should need a new roof.

I believe you have 3 days under Texas law to return it for full refund. I would be asking for a different camper or my money back.

I beleive I would be contacting the finance company and tell them to cancel the financing and go find another place to buy after taking that one back.

I feel like I missing something.

It is brand new from a dealer. Seems like a no brainer to take it back and at least have them warranty the roof or get a different camper.

If it is a glue issue I would look for a completely different brand.

Hang on a second, the roof made it from Indiana to Texas and the roof held not its not?

Seems fishy, take back to the dealer, swap units.

The camper has been returned for warranty but I don't feel I should be buying a camper with a replacement roof, I have already purchased the camper and feel I'm stuck with it, is there a way out. I'm ok with warranty work but on a camper the roof is the most important part of the trailer in my opinion.

Even if the repair the roof under warranty, overtime, the rubber roofs shrink on the edges.
This allows water to seem in from the edges. Just our experience.

It would be nice to know how they respond.

yea I would tell them I want a different camper. Your original paperwork should have the VIN number on it to make sure they aren't trying to give you the same one back.

I would definitely be calling who I have financing with to cancel or see what the options are.

I have contacted Jayco to see what there response is, I will contact Crestview to see if there response matches Jayco. If it comes down to replacing the roof I can deal with it but I will have in writing my concerns about warranty issues and I will be compensated for my Inconvience. I will keep posted as soon as I have more info.

If you can get out of the deal with Crestview, let me know and I'll refer you to someone at Camper Clinic II across the interstate.

I'll go ahead and tell you now that you have a long road ahead of you if you choose this route.

The best thing to do is to call the manufacturer, climb as high up the chain as you can, and then start an email documentation of the problems. My experience has been that they are going to fix the problem, and asking for compensation (at this point) is a waste of time.

Honestly, I would tell you to take the replacement roof, go watch them put it on, and go on with your life.

Raise heck with the dealer to get a replacement unit. Then raise heck with the manufacturer. That one should have never left the lot in that condition. What all sorts of issues could there be lurking due to the bad roof? You don't want to be the guy to find out.

I don't know this dealer or model but I have seen on the rv forums that some Jayco models are having roof issues. I have a jayco class C motherhome so I have read some of the topics. All new trailers should of gone through a make ready inspection by the dealer service department. Sounds like this trailer should of never passed the dealer inspection.

You may have to play hardball with them to void that contract or get into another trailer. I would drop a few suttle threats about fraud as this is a know issue with Jayco.

Proper for them...or you?
If i bought something NEW, and it rolled off the parking lot defective.. the arguement is I didn't buy a NEW product to find out it was defective, and would be demanding a NEW item, not a fixed item.
Once its fixed, it's no longer NEW - its refurbished...lending institutions would likely like to be made aware of this as well.
Living with it should not be in your vocabulary..

im guessing they are giving you the run around until your 3 days right of recision is up.... im sure they had you sign papers before you picked up that showed an inspection... id have a layer contact the dealership and go from there... you dont have to live with anything like that.

Yes the correct thing is to have the roof fixed, and when dealing with Crestview it is best to talk to the owner... he is in the Selma store, let him know that you're disappointed and unhappy with the situation and would like to trade for another trailer. It has been done AT CRESTVIEW before...

All that aside... If you let them fix it get Jayco to extend your 1 year warranty for the length of time the TT sits in the shop. They will do it if you are persistent.

It seems you are asking for advice and only taking what Jayco or Crestview advises. I would be on Crestviews parking lot camping out until YOU got what YOU wanted out of this. This is a defect from the factory and never should have made it to the lot to sell. Campers are not cheap and once you get water damage you will have a hard time trading it in or selling later on.

In 2005, I bought a 5th wheeler from their Buda store. I had no real issues with the 5th wheeler at all but would never ever buy another product from that dealership.

When I use to work at dealership, you would be surprised at the amount of things wrong coming in from the manufacturer. I have seen several rubber roofs completely torn off. We had one trailer missing a tire (not a spare tire but a tire). The manufacturers would rather it be fixed a dealership, because it will screw with their assembly line.

Kind of my experience as well. The dealer installed roof may be better than the factory roof. Most of these trailers have a thrown together feel. And I own one too.

We bought a new 2013 that had to have a new roof as well. Dealer said at the factory the dust dosent always get cleaned off before the roof is glued on and it won't stick properly. He said the replacement roofs are usually better than from the factory because more time is taken on a replacement than an assembly line. We have not had a problem in a little over a year of use. Hope it stays that way.
