Default Ammo choice for 25-06

I picked up a Savage 110 25-06. I not one that buys the hi-grade ammo. So Core-Lokt, Winchester CP2, or Federal will have to do.

But I would like to know what grain most people use for deer, axis, hogs? I wouldn't think I would ever have a shot over 200 yards. I have seen 90, 100, 115, and 120 grain. What does eveyone think

Thanks

You need to shoot whatever the gun likes...my first choice/test would be the Federal Fusion in 120gr if available.

My remington likes the 117 gr. from Hornady and it isn't much more than the others. I would try to stay with the 115 or the 120.

What your gun groups well. HP tend to group better. For a deer, you don't need a huge grain bullet. Get one that is going FAST and fragments into the lungs and that will take them down. The key with anything is accuracy so see what shoots well.

My Sendero loved the Hornady 117 grain. It also shot the 85 grain Winchester Ballistic Tips well but didn't group the Federal Premiums at all. After shooting various rounds of hand loads, the gun picked a 117 grain Sierra bullet.

My son also shoots the Savage 111. He shoots the Hornady suprperformance 117gr like it is nobody's business. The gun just seems to love them.

Mine has a synthetic stock and I got it while I worked at academy, they went on clearance for $200 bucks! Heck of a steal especially being the accu-trigger model.

I spent a small fortune on 25/06 ammo to see what my gun liked best.. It ended up liking Black hills gold.

I ended up selling the gun. I held on to all of the half boxes of ammo because I plan on getting another 25/06 in the future. Love the caliber!!!!

Mine too. I shot the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips when I first got it and hated them. The Sierra Game King are unreal though. Love em.

My dad has always shot 120 gr Remington core locs I have seen him kill deer out to 450 yards with them. My ruger will not group anything over 110 grs so I shoot 110 gr Winchester Accu bond ct in mine. If my gun would group them I would try the 115 gr. HSM ammo with Berger vld. They are around $30.00 a box at able ammo.
