Default First buck with a bow

Well....bow season was planned months in advance for me this year. Pre-season scouting with trail cams and all! Then work called. At first what sounded like a GREAT idea turned out to be "not so advantageous" to me. My work wanted me to go temporarily to my hometown for a while. I thought "Great! I can hunt weekends and off time", or so I thought. When I got here there was so much work it was unreal (these poor guys are swamped and really needed the help). So my hunting plans were out the window. When I did get to make the short drive to the ranch after work on RARE occasions I tried to make the most of it.Then I found out the feeders were set wrong and were throwing in the dark hours!!! The bucks were nocturnal! So we adjusted the timers and I gave it 10 days before hunting. One of the guys at work, Alex, knew that I had been dying to go hunting so he took my on call weekend this weekend. God bless him! Friday evening I had three does come in and chow down on corn. After they left, a young eight point with a nice tall rack came in. Too young to whack but in a couple years WHAMO! Right at dark (past decent shooting light), I had a big eight point come in that had a eight inch or so drop tine! The only way I could see his rank was when he lifted his head and I hunkered down so I could skylight his rack against the dwindling light. I guess still a little nocturnal. Then my battery for my flashlight ran out on the way back to the ranch. I finally made it back by the grace of God. I stayed the night at the ranch, brought some John Wayne and Tom Selleck westerns to watch and some good ole chilli and crackers to eat. Wouldn't you know it, there was a short in the lectric line to the generator! No microwave and no television. My luck was not doig well. Luckily, I brought a good book and could read by the solar powered battery lights we use as a back up. I need to go to sleep early anyways. I woke up October 21, 2006 with renewed vigor. Got in our Kawasaki mule and finally got in the blind. Then I realized I had set the alarm two hours too early. Oh well, could be worse. The does came back in and ate for what seemed like HOURS! i was afraid there would not be any corn left for the bucks!! One of the does peed 10 yards in front of my blind. I mention this becasue 10 minutes after the does left I was stretching before leaving the blind when I looked up and a ten point was sniffing the spot and curling his lip and shaking his head at the spot. I moved ever so slowly as two young eight point bucks followed him into the corned area. The ten point looked at least 5.5 years old. The two others looked around 2.5 years old. I drew back on the ten and released right behind the shoulder at 30 yards. I saw the arrow enter then jump straight up in the air as the other two deer ran away. The ten point trotted forward went 20 yards to my left spun around a few times and fell over. He never moved from that spot. I found the arrow, blood covered but in perfect condition. I called Dad, who was in the emergency room after a tree limb fell on his head while trimming the trees, and was getting 8 stiches, was excited for me.LOL!!! So I dropped him off at the taxidermist that afternoon! I don't know the score but he is 9 points with one kicker point and 20 inches in spread. The brow tines almost touch and curl back. I am so thrilled!
