Default A joke for you conspiracy theorists

Two conspiracy theorists die and go to heaven.

As they are standing at the pearly gates God informs them both that Oswald did in fact shoot Kennedy; man has landed on the moon; and the World Trade Center towers were taken down by 19 Muslim terrorists.

One conspiracy advocate whispers to the other, "I told you it goes all the way to the top."

And remember this; just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

That's great, and perfectly describes the conspiracy theory mindset. If you don't believe their theory, you are either stupid, naive or in on the conspiracy. I heard an author interviewed on the radio the other day who has written a book on the psychology of conspiracy theorys. It was really interesting - apparently believing wild and unproveable theories fulfills a deep psychological need for some people.

There are many things that are not "wild nor unpoveable" as you put it. All it takes is for some to walk around as lemmings without a care in the world. Evil and deceit abound when good men do nothing. You have the right to question your leaders. Ok, I am done. It was rather funny though

Very true snipehunter, some conspiracy theories turn out to be conspiracy facts and conspiracy thinking is very commonplace. Just to name a few, I read recently that 70% of Americans believe the JFK assasination was a conspiracy, 45% believe the govt is withholding evidence of aliens visiting from other planets and almost a third of Americans suspect the U.S. govt played a role in 9/11. (!) Looking at things critically and not believing everything you are told (especially by the government) is healthy and smart. Where it goes off the rails is when one does not change their mind when facts to the contrary emerge. In fact, most conspiracy theorists tend to double-down on their beliefs in the face of contradictory evidence. That alone shows that theirs is not a search for truth - they are getting something else out of believing the way they do....

For the out of this world conspiracies I agree. But what about ones like Obama and his birth cert? Do you consider the certs they showed us as facts?
The problem with the above "facts" are that he is still obviously hiding something or why else spend millions to lawyers to keep records sealed.

I do know what you are saying though, for the most part. Just that the world wants the so called conspiracy people to look crazy so they can get away with just about anything.

.
Yeah, the problem there was he let the controversy fester for so long that at this point, there is NOTHING he could do to convince the most die-hard "birthers". They asked for the cert. and now that they have it they say it's fake. If he had produced it 2-3 years ago, my guess is the whole matter would have fizzled. Kind of like the OBL photo - when released maybe a few would say "OK, now I believe" but the rest would say "it's a fake!" Their belief in a conspiracy trumps all.

Off topic, but.

Did you read Shane's thread the other day? I think it got whacked or locked, maybe not. What I found rather interesting was the use of terminology for -“Natural Born”… and what its meaning IS… and its bases on; eligibility to be President of the United States.

Interesting: to say the least.

Alot of it is due to my view of human nature I guess, but most of these theories fall into the category of "a secret to big to keep". I have a hard time believing any theory that would require more than two people to keep their mouths shut - especially in these days of the internet, Oprah show confessionals, and the best-selling expose'.

I think the same will happen with the OBL pictures.

I better stop posting on this thread - I'm dangerously close to being outed as a conspirator. That would get me kicked out of the Tri-lateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the inner sanctum of the militay-industrial complex, the CIA and the B.C.O.W.D. (Bush Chaney Organization for World Domination)

I thought that the existence of God was just a greedy conspiracy established by the Roman-Catholic church and later propagated by others (Governmental types and clergy) who stand to financially gain from the millions (now billions of dollars) willingly given to the church?

Very well put.

You also have to consider other nations and governments that would stand to gain by outing a conspiracy by a rival government.

Take the moon landing conspiracy as an example. You think the Russian's were not monitoring our space craft and radio signals? Of course they were. If we had faked the moon mission's they would have immediately called us out on it.

The same goes for the 9/11 troofers. If there is any shred of evidence that points to some government conspiracy then it would already have been pointed out by any government or agency that stands to gain from it.

Yet there is no credible evidence to show that either conspiracy has any merit. But the "believers" still want to believe.

And it's how people like Michael Meyers and Alex Jones make their money capitalizing on that part of the population that wants to believe.

Now I better go hide my dogs and my guns better have sunk to the bottom of the lake in that tragic boating accident I had a few years back.
