Default Fence around Feeder

I've seen it used alot in other parts of Texas but never around here. I'm interested in it because of hogs. One thing that concerns me is smaller yearlings that might not be able to jump the fence(may not be an issue.) Have any of you used them?

I had does with fawns that would not enter my set up in Burnet because of the fencing. Better to use barbed wire just to keep cows and livestock out. IMO

We use barb wire around our feeders in places that the cattle are running on while we use hog panel in places that we want to keep the pigs out of. We try and keep our pens around 50'x50'.

Personally, I run 34" hog panel feed pens around all my feeders... My feeders throw a pretty good ways, approx 60' across and it will throw a little outside the feed pen... Thats where the yearlings ususally hang out and grub on corn while momma is in the pen...

By the time season rolls around the majority of the yearlings have no problems jumping the 34" panels... I would rather keep the hogs out year round than have the yearlings in for the couple months they can't jump the hog panel...

Use Hog Panels........ The fawns can jump a lot higher than you realize.... Barbed wire will not keep out the hogs. Been there, tried that....

Just to keep hogs out I have panels that I cut to 3' and I see deer of all ages getting in. If they want in bad enough they'll get in.

Had a yearling buck not make it over hog panel in 2008. Didn't stop mommy from eating some protein. Buck didn't seem disturb by it either. Took about 6 hours to die. Birds and yotes finished him off in a couple of days.

That is pretty rough James.

Field fencing keeps the hogs out on my lease, 34" tall.

I put 2x6's wrapped with bailing wire on the top rung or squares of my panels all the way around my pen to prevent legs from getting caught in the top square and have had 0 problems since.

...settles the debate on whether to use cattle panels or the shorter hog panels.

Hog panels here and a pen @ least 30' diameter and then I usually cut out the top square in a couple places to allow yearlings an easy access point.

that happens some time to the yearlings, King ranch said that they see it very rarely though. They suggested running cover over the top two rows at the top roof flashing, rolled plastic what ever will work.
