    Grandaddy's Old Pocket Knife

Someone asked me to post pictures of my Granddaddy's old pocket knife,
that I carry for good luck.

As far back as I can remember he had carried, and used this knife.
    Yeah, it's that old.

He got good use out of it, and about had it worn down to the nub.
    Kinda like he was.

He had even carved out a notch in it, so he could get a grip on the blades to open them.

He laid it in my hand just before he passed away, on the day he died.

He also gave me his old hat.
I wear it a lot, especially when I am shooting, hunting, or fishing.
I've watched him clean a million fish with this knife, and while wearing this hat.

He pretty much raised me from a toddler up to a teenager, and the knife, and hat were always there.

A Finer more Up Standing Man there never was, or ever will be.

Yeah, I got a case of the "Feels" typing this, but they are "Good Feels".

Here it is. I cleaned a squirrel with it just yesterday.

Very cool - thanks for posting and sharing.

If there were more men like your granddad most of our country's problems would be non-existent.

That gave me the feels too. Made me think about my old dad and his knife ( and Masonic ring) that I wanted bad. My sister and her husband were in charge of the funeral because I was out on my boat working and couldn't get bk to Texas until the last minute.
They buried him with both. Don't think I'll ever forgive them for that.
Like you and your granddad, my dad was my best friend. He could do no wrong.

          By the way.

The knife is/was an old 3 blade Camillus like this one.

My Uncle Bill Hollis broke the long blade out of it opening a paint can full of worms.

I still remember Old Pap saying "Oh Mercy Bill"
I was around 8 or 9 at the time.

That's awesome Rick!! Like already mentioned, if that knife could talk!! I love old knives like that and the character and stories behind them. I've got one that was my grandpa's, and several of my dad's. I keep them in the safe for the most part but I'll occasionally use one. I'm too scared to lose one to carry them all the time!! I carried my Dad's old shotgun duck hunting one time, and everybody laughed because I tied a piece of rope from the trigger guard to my belt loop. Wasn't taking any chances!!

That is a nice knife, and greater sentiment behind it.

One thing I didn't mention about this old knife earlier is:

Pap had actually pried the one end apart, and removed the piece of broken blade left in it. Said he was gonna order a new blade for it, but for whatever reason he never did.

I was cleaning it up, and sharpened it earlier, and thought to myself -
How cool would it be to finish the job he started over 50 years ago?

                              So I did.

I didn't think a new blade would be fitting, so I removed the blade from an old worn down Kissing Cranes German folder, ground it to fit, and installed it.
