Good luck!

Might want to put in a little trench around the exterior of that tent in case you get a big rain, or you might be getting a little muddy in there.

Saw one doe, but not discouraged! Gonna stay low and glass a ton in the morning. Hope to find a buck and stalk him in the afternoon.

Now it's time for a fire!

It was 42 this morning. I was tempted to light the stove but just made a cup of coffee and got dressed inside my bag. Kole is on his way up from Amarillo now. I've hunted the area a few times but never for deer. Been camping here since I was a kid.

Set up glassing now. Got a guy somewhat close calling for elk.

First hunt this morning. Glassed up 3 elk with the guys who were bugling near me. We chit chatted for awhile and they gave me some spots where they'd seen deer. I saw two not huge bucks at around 50yds and thought about shooting the 3x3 but thought against it. You can barely make him out in the last picture. This is not a trophy hunt, but heck I didn't want my hunt to end 2 hours into it!

Also I forgot my phoneskope in the truck so the elk pics suck.

Kole came in this afternoon. We went and glassed a little then walked down a logging road near where I saw the deer this morning. Rained off and all all afternoon. No deer seen.

Sirloins and Mac n cheese for dinner!

Found another group of elk. Got to watch a couple young bulls sparring. One decent bull in the group. Saw 4 does and a monster buck while driving to a new spot. Drove around the corner and parked the truck and tried to put a stalk on but never found him. Good 4x4 who was hard horned. No pics of him dang it.

No elk tag...yet.

Kole has a 1st rifle so he can't get an archery OTC. I brought my bow and may be going to buy a tag...

Not many hunters out here. Have seen camps and trucks parked but haven't run into anyone in the field. Well besides the guys calling elk yesterday morning. But we were back at the road.

Rain coming through and we're about to go out for the afternoon. All the deer we've seen have been in the same general area, so we're headed back there.

Hiked the ridge where we've seen deer this afternoon. All does no bucks. Tons of fresh sign.

Hey compared to my last hunts here, I've seen tons of game. Just gotta get the shot. Feel confident!

(The only problem is if the lucky stache works I'm gonna have to keep the stupid thing into deer season)

Man we screwed up and overslept a little. Guess our bodies needed a little extra sleep. We went and cruised roads a bit and glasses but nothing seen.

Sucks because the mornings have been more productive so far.

Went and hiked the ridge above the deer sightings hoping they were staying high until late in the afternoon. Only saw a doe late in the day.

Back at it in the morning. Think we're closing in!

I'm ready to shoot a deer so I can go buy an elk tag and spike camp on the mountain the rest of the week
