The test calls for you to add 85 lbs of P (phosphorus) per acre

That's a crap load of P to put out.....and I'm not kidding. Since most high P fertilizers are 16% P at the most....you would have to put out 566lbs of 3-16-0 fertilizer to get 85 pounds of phosphorus down.

That would be extremely expensive and probably not worth it IMO.

You can buy big bulk bags of bone meal on eBay but most don't give a ratio of P.

My advice would be to put as much P down as you can afford/manage now and call it good. Adding organic matter to the soil over time can also raise P levels. That's easy to do by growing Elbon Rye or similar in the fall and mow it after it gets tall in the spring...but it takes time.

I am thinking about planting Tecomate Monster Mix which is Red and White Clover with Chicory and adding my own wheat/oats. Any thoughts?

I can get it at below retail cost that is why I am considering it.

Wheat, Oats, Clover, and Chicory was kinda my plan all along

If using a mix like this, do you need to use an inoculant for the clover?

Those mixes usually have an inoculant coating on them. The Tecomate stuff does.

Yes I bought a 10lb bag of it last year and split it among my 3 plots. It came up good.

I am looking at this mix or possibly the outfitters blend and adding more oats/wheat to it.

I just like how these mixes have clover already in them, most of them. ANd its inoculated. I can always add more wheat/oats to them

Looking at Tecomate Monster Mix, Max Attract and Outfitters blend from Mossy Oak.

Update - Well the lake is dropping at a rate of a foot every 4.5 days at the current rate of flow being released. I need about 6 feet of drop so I can cross my creek to get set up for hunting. That's basically a month from now so looks like it will be after bow season opens.

Dang mosquitoes will pick you up and carry you away so I'm not too excited about hunting with them anyway!

Question:

I sprayed my plot Labor Day weekend and planned on planting this weekend. I was going to run a haro over the plot to rake as much of the dead vegetation off the plot as possible before spreading the seed. With the recent rain do ya'll think it would be better to just broadcast the seed into the dead vegetation?

I would broadcast the seed and then mow the dead vegetation over the seed. I am grain drilling and then shredding my dead vegetation.

Man this one is stuck good. To the frame. My dad is here but can't pull me out. Gonna get a shovel and try to dig.

Already tried strapping a 2x4 to the wheel....fail. High centered.

Yesterday I did manage to set up a popup blind, camera, and scattered 50 pounds of corn on the ground.

I lost my beautiful post oak tree (last years flood) where my game tamer was. I'm still just sick about it....was the perfect tree. So I need to figure out where to put the new one.

Still pretty dad gum hot.

Sprayed all my plots. Got great kill after the 2nd spray. Next time I am shredding 1 month before. I had tall goatweed from disking last year, which I won't do again. So all the spray did not hit the ground and lower weeds.

Buying seed early next week and grain drilling next sunday before the rain!

PUMPED!!!

This is the 3rd growing season for it. Its gotten thicker/taller every year. I've read that burning it every 3-4 years will keep it regenerating.

Slung some elbon rye and clover seed the other day ahead of this forecasted rain. Kind of halfarssed it cause I have no time with work these days.

Check the cams and had an old bruiser show up this morning for the first time. He's a 6pt with a crab claw to make him a 7. I apologize for the crappy pictures.

Had a great first sit this morning. Saw the has biggest buck I've ever seen on my place. Big dark chocolate horned 10 or 12 pt. He was cruising pretty fast in and out of the mesquite....stopped him at 35 and drew back but he only stooped for a second and kept going. Maybe a 140" give or take. Don't have any TC pics of him. Saw 5 bucks and three does this morning.

Lots of other bucks hitting hand corn and feeders. Had another pic of the big 7 but he only comes by every 4-5 days.
