Well since duck season opened Sat. I figured I would post up something that has worked for me when I have dunked my cell phone(s) while hunting. I remove the battery from the phone as soon as possible and dry the phone as best I can and store it in as dry a place you can find until you get home. Once I get home I place the cell phone and battery (still removed) in a ziplock bag full of dry uncooked rice. Completely cover the phone and battery with rice and remove the excess air and seal. Let it sit in the rice overnight and then test your phone. I have had to leave it up to 2 days before, but being without my phone for a few days was better than having to buy a new one. This has worked for me on several phones including my Blackberry Pearl and several motorola razors.

It doesn't work on the iPhones.......... Too much stuff going on in there, not to mention you can't remove the battery without breaking out the soldering iron (which I did).

Yet another reason not to own Apple products! Sorry, I was in an electronic crime investigation class yesterday and the stuff Apple does would amaze you. Not to mention the security problems associated with iPhones.

I have done the rice thing on 2 of my son's phones and one of his friends phones that went for a swim in the pool....and an Ipod that went through the washing machine. The Ipod started working again after about 3 weeks.
![]() It is amazing the tricks you pick up when you have kids and a swimming pool in the backyard.

Forgot to mention I have had even better results with rice in the ziplock bags that you vacuum seal with the handheld vacuum pump
Wish I didnt have the water problems but they always come around duck season. This really works though.

I used a ziplock baggie to keep my phone dry, but today I bought one of the Pelican cases meant to hold SD memory cards for my Razr. I had to grind out about 1/32 inch from either side to let it seal completely. I was able to to do a dunk test with my OLD RAZR which I ruined duck hunting last season. Tomorrow is it's maiden voyage and field trial. I attached a duck call lanyard to it on one end to go in my pouch, and the other end is looped to my suspender buckle on the waders.
Model 920, I paid $4.90 at Fryes. I pulled out the liners meant for the SD cards. ![]() |

Don't laugh.
My brother put his phone in his raincoat pocket and it rain so much the phone was under water for an hour in his pocket since water ran around the flap and filled his pocket while we hunkered down. I took the battery out and put the phone on the dash and ran the defrost and checked it every few minutes. Within an hour it was dried out enough to work again.

Guy I worked with replaced the water sensitive green sticker under the battery that turns red after a dunking with a new fake green one, took it back to verizon and got a new one!!

My new RAZR case made it's maiden voyage to the tulies yesterday, and while I managed to keep from going over sideways into the water, it worked out fine. I think the lanyard on it, and then tucking it inside my waders instead of in the outer pocket will also help keep me from ruining another cell phone. All until somebody calls me up, and then it's 'don't drop it' time.

I did my own way, which is actually pretty hilarious
My friend dropped his phone in his cup of sweet tea while we were on the way to my deer lease. I took his phone and opened it up, then put it under my windshield wiper After about 15 min of 70 mph it was right back to normal. hahaI have the samsung rugby which is waterproof, so i don't worry about that. I have submerged it multiple times while duck hunting.
