Went out a couple of hours this afternoon to see if the crappie had moved on to my winter brush piles. They had not but my buddy Seth Vanover called me and put me on the fish. Found them on standing timber but the bite was low until I bumped up a notch on the jig size. They hammered a little bigger purple hand tied Nekid tackle jig. One of my best days in a while for size with lots of pound and a half a a few two pounders.
All fish caught on standing timber in 20ish foot of water.

We went on a guided trip with Britt Stewart on RC on 10/27. My dad and I had a blast. Caught a limit of BIG fish. Probably caught 65 to keep 50. My first time seeing livescope in person! We fished brush piles at a wide range of depths but most bites were hugging the bottom.

Main lake brush 16-20' did the damage! Bet we rolled over 5-6 piles for every one we fished. 59 degree surface temp is gonna take another dip come next week. Off to the woods then maybe head to LOP weekend after! Haven't been there since January!

Well thats just ridiculous. Work is slow ( real slow ) and my guy took off today so I headed to lake Conroe after the kids got on the bus. Wasnt expecting much due to my past crappie history but it was a beautiful morning. Fished the docks a bit without a bite. Went scouting and found a good pile. Dropped a minnow. After a minute or 2 I got a bite. I was relieved I at least got a bite! Then caught one. Then another and another. By the time I had 10 keepers I was literally looking around wondering if somehow I was being punked! I kept thinking " what the heck is going on! ". Bites slowed a bit so looked for another pile. Found a couple of small ones but no bites. Didnt stay long if I didnt get a bite. Found a good one in a cove and dropped a minnow. Started all over again!

I literally dont know what was going on. Did what I always do but somehow it worked this time. Caught 38 total, 24 keepers. Last 3 were on a jig because I used up all 3 dozen minnows!

Next years schedule. We won't make all of them cause we're gonna try and dance on a bigger stage but gonna make the ones we can! Waco will be fun. Never been on that lake before.

Waco has a ton of crappie in it. One of my cuzins and her husband fished it with a guide 3 years ago. They caught over 300 for the day. But only kept a limit each. They go fishing for their anniversary each year. Fishing was their first date. She did learn how to fish a jig that day.

Went again yesterday in the drizzle, fished about 4hrs and caught 10, but 8 were undersize. Wind was pretty stiff, was a lot of work just trying to keep the boat over the piles.

Finances and logistics would make this tough for me to do this year but this is awesome!! Thank you American Crappie Trail for working to bring crappie fishing to the next level! Where else can somebody new to crappie fishing fish 2 full days with a pro angler for $350! That's a heck of a deal. A had day guide trip costs that much and your gonna get 2 full days in a boat with a hammer on an awesome lake! I would be looking at $2100 entry plus travel expenses for all 3 and my cut of the 10 team events we plan on fishing is less than that but maybe next year. They thought it out well. Like the way they're doing it. Never been to Alabama River but plan to be there March of 2021!

Very Cool! so how do the Am's get picked? That's a long drive but sounds like a great opportunity to some lucky fishermen.

It's all done random draw. No telling who you would fish with and it will be somebody different every day. The combined weights is a good thing. If I'm fishing for fish for me and the guy next to me is fishing for fish for him he better bring a long rod and his own livescope!!

This way at the end of the day they walk away with the same score. Kinda like a team for a day. CoAngler side I bet has a waiting list to fish all 3. Pro side will be a little tougher to get IMO.

Killing me! Wish it wasnt 4 1/2hrs away.

I scouted up north end of Conroe out of Cagle Sunday. Found a few piles but couldnt get em to bite. Its ao shallow up there its hard for me to imagine seeing many up there since they are supposed to be deep. But then I see videos of people catching them 5' deep in Decmber? Whats the deal?

I scouted up north end of Conroe out of Cagle Sunday. Found a few piles but couldnt get em to bite. Its ao shallow up there its hard for me to imagine seeing many up there since they are supposed to be deep. But then I see videos of people catching them 5' deep in Decmber? Whats the deal?
I probably won't catch a crappie in less than 20' of water from now till March. People catching them shallow in winter are usually in deep creeks. Not all creeks hold crappie in winter and just being 5' deep on a flat this time of year your wasting your time! I would be near a creek channel or deep water this time of year regardless.

So they are likely to stage shallow real early? In December I expect them to be deep, but some catch them shallow in Stubblefield when they "should" be deep. Do they crappie in the Stubblefield area act more like creek crappie than lake crappie since they are so far north of the lake?

Snowflake Killa knows this area but not sure if Slew does since its far from home turf...Stubblefield is the far north end of Conroe where the river feeds into Conroe

I don't know where you talking about but if the river is deep enough for shad to live in when it's gets cold cold some go that way and crappie follow them. The surface temp will be warmer than the water temps on warm days so the shad will come to the surface and the crappie will follow! Same goes for deep. Warmer water will be in the deepest parts of the lake and Shad will go there for warmer water and the crappie will follow. Usually near creek or river channels. These are the fish I'm usually targeting in winter.
