Was able to get out yesterday before the front blew in and fish Matagorda Bay with a couple top notch Texans, Marine Corporal Paul Gardner and US Army Srgt Sergio Trejo. Both guys were wounded in battle serving multiple missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cprl Gardner was shot in the stomach during a gun fight with an AK-47 while Srgt Trejo had bombs thrown at his platoon while on a mission, and in his words, "was blown to hell", having multiple surgeries to repair damaged areas. Both guys were a blast to fish with and we really enjoyed the stories and just great conversation with some of our nations finest. Both guys now spend their days helping others and are very involved in working with other veterans in multiple venues. We fished with Captain Rob Baylor (281-733-4750) over in West Matty with my buddy Cowboy Shawn tagging along as well doing some filming. We found fish scattered here and there with a tough bite at times but the guys worked hard and landed a mess of fish including sand trout, speckled trout, drum, sheephead and a few redfish. We threw both live shrimp, Tidal Surge split tails and Down South Lures on a 1/8oz jig head. Was a great time and by mid-way into the trip we had Paul casting that Laguna rod like a pro!
