              Cedar is common slang for Juniper

                Clearly no termites in that area. In our area, it would have been nothing but metal in several years.

                  There are 67 species of Juniper classified. The rates of growth for each species varies dramatically, in some circumstances. It is likely that the Juniper the rifle was found on was an immature, or newly mature specimen at the time and grew only to its limit, as its particular species allows/controls.

                      I bet he leaned it there to make a nature call and forgot which tree. That's almost happened to me with a camouflage shotgun when I've been duck hunting.
