I have a couple back up spots, not really worried. If somebody gets there before me, I'll simply move down a bit. This is public land hunting and I'm not about to get upset of this happens. Just blessed to be able to get out there again.

Oh ok well that's not too fair if that's what they did. Pretty much turns public hunting area in their own private land. Most have spots that will provide good numbers pretty much guarantee a shot opportunity and a return to hunt the next season.

If they do it the same as last year, exempts can start setting up feeders next week. Also if the same as last year, exempts will be able to review the slides via email and confirm understanding, no need to attend the full orientation, only need to show license, test, etc. requirements.

I just scouted my old spots and saw lots of does. No trail cameras up until we get notice.

This is what I thought as well. Exempts don't need to go to orientation. I'll double check with brad. Thanks

I hope this isn't true, and just a rumor. Let me know what happens on orientation day.

May need to write my Congressman.

I don't get what the problem is... Shoot a doe an you can do it also, its not that difficult. There is no shortage of good hunting spots to choose from.

If that were the case, then every person that gets a permit would bag a deer ever year. There would also not have issues with blind placement and no need for approval on blind placement.

The bottom line if they are going to open this to the public, the standards for hunting need to be the same for all participants.

I'm guessing they still have the rules in place by how close you can set up to another Hunter's area, so by allowing one group to place their blinds in advance of others gives an unfair advantage to blind placement.

There are locations that are known to produce great opportunities to harvest a deer year in and year out. So, why should someone who harvested a deer the previous year, not have to compete with everyone who also drew a permit for locations to an area?

Brad just sent an email notifying the draw is on Monday the 17th. You don't have to be there and we will be notified by the 25th I believe kind of strange

Auto renewal of successful hunters, spike 1st (last year), and returning hunters getting to return to their spots.... they are just trying to improve success rate.

I'm ok with the rules, because they are in line with the purpose.... which is not really providing public hunts, but to reduce population.

(But I am a returning hunter, so maybe I am just biased)

I'm a returning hunter this year, but I wasn't last year.

I scouted found a good spot that hadn't been hunted and killed a doe to cover me for this year.

I see both sides but I don't have an issue with the rules as they are.

OK. I get your point. But there are many hunters that only hunt 1-2 times and never go back out. So they probably don't shoot their doe. The parking area I use is virtually empty after the first few weeks of the season. The purpose of this hunt is population management, I see no problem with giving preference to people that actually meet those management goals every year.

Also, If someone doesn't mind walking and scouting...there is no shortage of hunting areas. If you walk in 20+ minutes along the Goodnight Trail in most areas, you won't see a single feeder.

If tags are not being all used up they should up the numbers and require 2 does b4 any buck like Granger. Most will shoot the 1 doe then just wait for a buck and thats not helping the numbers like they want. I say this because i remember reading a few years back buck tags went too fast and guys complaining they were being "wasted" on spikes vs nice bucks.

They could also open more spots maybe 150 vs 100

I have hunted Georgetown 6+ years in a row, just quit 2 years ago since I have a private land to hunt.

But, I do agree with Dave. Lake Georgetown does not lack of deer. Most hunters compete the "easy" access spots. But, if you want to be a continuous success hunter, you should not rely on those good and easy access spots. I believe those success hunters should have more than one spots to go and most of the spots would not be so crowd, otherwise there would be too many unpredictable facts to impact the result, it would be very hard to duplicate the success every year.

When I hunted at Lake Georgetown, I can always manage 1+ deer each year depending on how hard I hunt. To take a doe was not a problem. One of my buddies had more time in the field than me, he managed 6-7 deer a year. Ours spots were not "easy" to access or not look "good" by others. Almost no one else competed to me. I never worry about to lose my spot. My more worrying was to pull 300lb equipment/corn into deep wood and get them set up under triple-digit degree in August :P

I thought everyone was given the go ahead to pick their spot last year after the draw-i.e. exempts and newly drawn hunters had the same opportunity once they got the email confirmation.it prevented the mass exodus scramble to get out of the parking lot and in position after orientation. Exempts just had the chance to confirm reading the rules via email rather than going to orientation. We didn't have to turn in coordinates last year either. I guess we will see next week...

I'm considering taking off for the draw tomorrow, do they announce the drawn names, or do they have a list of the names posted after the draw so as to not have to wait until next Tuesday to find out

They only had three sheets of paper with all hunters names on them and exempt hunters had an E next to name. I saw mine so there was one kinda.
