Default Freedom of Speech in the UK

I lived there as a young man from 8 to 16 yrs of age., I am 37 now. I loved it and things were not like they are now back then. It was only as of recent I learned that in the UK and Europe they have special police forces and courts that deal with anti muslim rhetoric. and you can be fined and imprisoned for it. It didn't hit me until yesterday when I saw that KT Hopkins a UK journalist was put under investigation by the police for a tweet that dared to call out Islamic terrorism for being Islamic that I may have created a cultural **** storm yesterday. Below the KT tweet is an email exchange with a former co worker in the UK, she is no longer responding to me, I hope I didn't get her into any trouble. It is beyond the pale that in the UK, home of the Magna Carta that free speech is dead.

Canada just did it, too! No rules/regulations saying you can't shame Christians, though. Just sickening. If we don't, as Americans, stand up against this mindset then we'll soon sure follow down the drain along with them.

It's already happening in America. It isn't written into law, obviously, but people with positions of power are suppressing opposing views. I just watched a video where a college professor was very aggressively and condescendingly scolding a student for expressing her opinion in a "non-free-speech-zone".

I hope she thrashed him. I've told my daughter not to take none of that crap if it pops up on her college campus.

Yep, this is bad. Freedom has it's ugly parts, but this authoritarianism crackdown on speech and these "non-free-speech-zones" is downright disgusting. The ugly side of freedom is that people are going to get offended and get their feelings hurt. Those who can't take it, don't deserve the liberty that goes along with it.

Not questioning JSweet, but do we even know for sure that this resulted in disciplinary action, or even an investigation? That is an auto response from Metro police. For all we know metro police had a chuckle and tossed in in the trash with their crumpet crumbs (I assume that is what Bobbies eat instead of donuts).

I get that the mentality, but that is one individual. Snot nosed whiners have existed in every part of the wood for the entirety of its history, in grade school we called them tattle-tales. Some grow out of it, others become the adult version and run to the po-po instead of the teacher

To answer your question, I don't know how to see if their police have an investigation ongoing or not, but I did jump on Twitter to see if I could find the thread that JSweet shows a picture of. The conversation happened, the response from Met Contact Center happened. That is real. Twitter doesn't have auto responses. If they did, this does not appear to be an automatic type of reply. It confirms that they have assigned a complaint against this person to be investigated by specialist officers. There doesn't appear to be any kind of resolution to it yet.

The fact that a complaint was even taken for this type of "offense" is, in and of itself, disturbing. I would hope if this happened here in the US the officer taking the complaint would reply, "So what do you want us to do about it? We can't do anything to someone for what they said."

No it is a real law passed by their parliament. People have been arrested for speaking against muslims on FB and Twitter.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...r-s-death.html

The bill contains wording to amend the Public Order Act 1986:
Section 29A Meaning of "religious hatred" In this Part "religious hatred" means hatred against a group of persons defined by reference to religious belief or lack of religious belief.

Section 29B: (1) A person who uses threatening words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, is guilty of an offence if he intends thereby to stir up religious hatred.

Yes, people are actually investigated, charged and punished for this.

Also look up the human rights tribunals in Canada. It's disturbing.

I just heard of another story from Scotland this morning. Apparently a guy taught his dog to sieg heil as a joke, put a video of it on youtube and was arrested for promoting Nazism. He is facing up to a year in prison. He is out now awaiting trial.

Then his neighbor covers his door in dog feces screaming Nazi scum, so he calls the cops to report the vandalism. They come and arrest her. Not for vandalism, but for hate speech because she called him a Nazi.

This is what happens when the people allow themselves to be disarmed by their government. It may take some time, but sooner or later the government will pass laws telling you how to live, think and speak.

South Wales Police said a 37-year-old man was being held on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive, insulting written material with intent that is likely to stir up racial hatred.
Our dem party would be in a huge pickle if we held people to this standard.
All day everyday dem representatives use this language to describe republicans.
If we aint careful its going to be like that here in a few years

That's the problem though, its the libs who pass these laws and then get to decide who is in violation of them. The muzzies are out on the streets attacking people and chanting death to all infidels but you don't see them getting arrested.
