I'm not very optimistic about the upcoming season. I kept two feeders running all year, but life got in the way and feeder went empty at the end of June. I finally made it up there a few weeks ago to get everything ready for bow season since I had done my major trimming of shooting lanes in February thinking I would just have to trim a few that fell or new growth. I get there and see that the timber company strip cut my end of the lease creating a lot of rework to do with little time before season to do it. I made another trip with my tractor to mow right of ways and shooting lanes and got stuck. It took me 3 hours to get out and get mowing again. Up there by myself during the middle of the week is ok in hunting season, but sucks when work needs to be done. Luckily my better sense decided to stop because I got too hot and frustrated.
Going back tomorrow to finish mowing, fill feeders, and put a camera or two up. I really never see bucks until the first week of September.

Oh I know.

So I finished breaking in my new rifle barrel today. That was a long process but I'm glad it's done. I'll get my scope back on this week or next then I'll get it sighted for the Sept. 30 opener. I cannot wait!

In for Cherokee County. It's going to be a phenomenal year in East Texas for big antlers. Some of the biggest jumps in antler growth I have seen since I have been running cameras.

Didn't have time to put the new PVC feeder, but was able tgo pull cards this weekend.

Pigs still all over the place even tho no feeder has been up for a couple weeks. No pictures of bucks yet, which is usual so I'm not too worried, have all the doe still showing and have a new doe that showed up at new camera location, never seen her and she has a fawn with her.

I do know from camera pics at the end of last season there was one or two that made it through who should be pretty good this year.

I'm sure it'll shoot just fine. LOL I just figured it'd be faster to do without a scope since I wouldn't be worrying about trying to get it zeroed or anything.

I've got two 6.5 gallon bucket feeders I will be putting out this weekend. I throw a rope over a limb and pull the feeder up about 20' or so in the air so the deer don't have a feeder in their sight. It has worked for me the past few years.

well nothing but hogs on most of our sets right now. Seems pretty typical for out place. Deer seem to start showing at the feeders early October

Glad this is up and going. I haven't set out the cameras yet. I hope to do that this weekend. I still had a couple of nice ones on camera at the end of Feb., so I hope that they are still going to come around for an arrow. Still hunting south of Athens in Henderson County just north of the Anderson County line.

Man I am, not even worried about birds. Ready for bow season. This is all I have for now. My cousin has been throwing hand corn about 400 yards through the woods and has a good 8 and awesome 10 pretty regular. So we know we have 3 shooters in the area. Best group of deer we have had in a while.

I bet a lot of trees dropped them during this storm mess. Good.

I've scheduled some "appointments" near my deer lease next week. Got a lot of making up for lost time to do.

I am so ready to get in the stand. What a horrible week. My parents don't have to worry about going through last years meat, now... They have 6 feet of water in the garage and 1st floor of the house, and rising. My brother lost everything as well. Sure hope y'all are all safe. This will be a tough year for several million people.

85 acres here at home, 350 acres near Good Springs, 217 acres near Mt. Enterprise, and 2500 acres in Trinity Co. I guess you could say I'm an East Texas hunter. Only one problem. Where to start ?

We're wondering the same thing. My mom and dad are going to need their camper for probably the next two months or however long it's going to take for them to get their house repaired.

If anyone lives in the Segno/Votaw area of Polk County, could you please PM me? If you're able to drive by our camp just a couple miles from Segno, I'd like to know the status of our campers, but I don't think we can get up there right now because of the flood waters. Between my shifts on the fire truck and taking care of family, there just hasn't been time to find out. Stay safe everyone.

Hey guys brand new to TBH and not sure this is the correct place for this, but I am wanting to buy a small track in Cass county. I live in southern MO and just want a place to go on weekends. I've heard horror stories about poachers/theives. Will that be an issue since it'll be vacant most times? Again not trying to get off topic but it wouldn't let me start my own topic and thought you would be the guys to ask. Thanks.

I hope to go up one day next week to my lease if that will help. That's if the Trinity River doesn't have the roads flooded. I drive through Segno and I don't mind stopping if you haven't made it up there.
PM me directions or location.

Welcome to TBH! Poaching and thievery is a concern in ETX as you have heard. Some places worse than others. Small tracks are naturally more susceptible to these problems. Best bet is, once you've found a property you like, visit with the neighbors to get a feel for if they live there, are around much, get out on their property much, know much about the other neighbors, etc.

You may get more responses later in the year... Attention is mostly on Harvey recovery efforts right now.
