Roll call for hunters that hunt West Texas! Where do you hunt and how has your season been so far? I hunt in Dryden and hopefully get out there next weekend.

Default Northeast of Dryden...

Haven't made it out there yet. Other lease members going out to fill feeders (we feed year round and its their turn). The GF and I are going out the weekend of the 21st.

I'm gonna miss the gun opener too due to work. I'll prolly go back out the second and third weekends in November and then back the first two weekends in December. Last year the big boys were really rutting hard around December 18.

I've had several good ones on camera, but I got two bucks in mind this year. One is a huge 9. Main beams go out nearly past his nose, tall tines, good mass. The other is a big 10 with nearly as long main beams as the nine. He only showed up at my stand twice. Mid November and then the day AFTER the general season closed.

I'm east of Pandale, my first year. I couldn't believe the activity this weekend. I had deer either waiting on or running to the feeder when it went off. I've never seen anything like it. Monday morning I had a 9 point waiting on it to go off, 30 min before it went off. When it did, he only tensed his body didn't move until it stopped throwing corn. Then he started eating. Small young bucks were sparing all weekend. It was a awesome weekend.

Lease is just West of Robert Lee. Lot of young deer moving. Only seen a couple mature deer on camera yet. One of which my brother smoked last Sunday. We'll see if we can catch up with one of the others.

I had a mountain lion on game camera two years ago. Haven't seen him since. Neighbors have seen lions on camera once or twice and even on their camp camera. Black bears have been on camera at their place as well, probably because they have the Pecos River running through it. Destroyed a couple of their feeders. We haven't seen any bears, but that doesn't mean the haven't come through.

Wow!!! I couldn't keep track of all the bucks this morning!! Had 2 new 11 pointers come in. One short tined one and a OMG one. I had decided (new place) to not take my trophy till the rut. But if OMG gives me a shot I'll take it.

Default North of Pumpville...

i posted earlier about not getting to go until this last weekend. The GF and I made it out Friday afternoon and checked two cameras that I was really interested in. One, the batteries had gone dead and the second had a lot of activity with a couple of good bucks.

My lease isn't set up to bow hunt very well, but we took them anyway. Put her in a stand with her rifle for pigs/sheep/javalinas and she had a blast. Saturday morning we sat in the same spots. This time I had hogs out past the feeder at 168 yards. Long story short, I killed one and couldn't' find the other. That was fun! Saturday was spent on stand repair as mine had blown over earlier in the year and still wasn't completely repaired. Finished that, took a nap, and headed back out. She still saw lots of deer but no pigs. I saw two does and that was it.

Sunday morning we went up top. She sat in a friends stand. Saw a ton of deer but no pigs or sheep. I sat in my stand and saw some pretty good action. a couple of nice bucks that may be great in a couple years. The batteries had died in the camera so I replaced them on Friday. Pulled the card on Sunday morning and looked at it when I got back home. This is what I found...

Does Rochester/Haskell County count as West Tex? I always tell folks I hunt in WestTex perhaps I've been using the wrong term. Its 4 hrs West of Dallas, so it is certainly West.
If that area is not WestTex, what do you call it?

Headed there in 2 weeks. Can't wait.

Between Rocksprings and Sonora here. Season started with a bang in October. Bucks have since scattered into their normal pre rut erratic patterns. No signs of rut yet, although the young bucks are trying to speed up the process.

Hey guys. For those that have hunted the paint mare ranch by dryden, can you give your opinion on the hunting out there? Deer population, varmits, etc...

We bought the property real cheap without looking at it(I know..I know). It is roughly 5 miles down Bendle rd. This is the first time we have been to the place. It is flat with nothing but brush. No trees, no draws, canyons, etc..

I was a astounded by the amount of hunters and their proximities.

We set up the feeder and camera just to see what is out there. We are heading back there after the season to check on it.

If anyone has hunted this area, I would love to hear about it. Thx
