    Vibrio Case: Ingleside

Waters are warm and apparently there is flesh eating bacteria growing. Jr high teacher from Ingleside, had surgery yesterday, is in pretty bad shape. Prayers needed. For those that are going to be in the water, take every precaution, even on the beaches. If you have open sores, even a sketter bite, I would stay out of the waters down here.

Man it happens every year all up and down the coast. No reason to stay out of the water. If you have a cut clean it well. It's rare for someone to actually get it, there are probably more people hit by sting rays than vibrio cases.

This is a close friend of ours that we where fishing with last weekend. He is a perfectly healthy man and lives on the water. I assure you he did not have any noticeable open wounds, scratches or abrasions. He is currently be transported to UTMB Galveston for a specialist, currently still sedated and kidneys aren't functioning. Please continue your thoughts and prayers as all this happened very rapidly. At 4am last Saturday he showed the first symptoms and by 11am was in surgery.

Not good. My wife worries about this kind of stuff more than I do. I fish as much I can having a full time job and 2 kids. I tell her it's very rare but very serious. I don't take extra precautions because of it, other than trying to assure my wife of the rarity.

              Hope he pulls through.

Sure hate to hear this. I know the chances of picking up this bacteria are slim, but it still gives me some concern when entering the water.

Carry bleach in a spray bottle and spray you legs off good when you get out of the water.

It's BAD stuff. A friend of mine had a bad case last year. He had a lowered immune system due to a previous staph infection. Got Vib in waters that he wades every weekend. **** near lost his life, not to mention his leg. I was wading two weeks ago and walked into a snapped-off fiberglass PowerPole. Jabbed me in the shin and cut my shin. Wasn't anything I could do about it but fish some more.....Sure made me think though.

                      Prayers up.

^^^^^ We carry a bottle of rubbing alcohol on the boat in case something like this happens.
