Vaping - Worse than regular smokes?

Didn't want to derail the other vaping thread and disrespect any people hurt by vaping.

So it appears vaping is vastly more popular than smoking in high school. My daughter says more people vape than those who don't.

It's obviously bad to inhale pretty much anything except clean air. But how bad is it? Will time tell that it's just as bad as regular smoking?

IMO there's no way we will ever stop kids from adding all sorts of crap. And the allure of it being safe was sunk in long ago (I'm afraid).

    So what should be done?

IMO The push for making pot legal is what'd causing a lot of the vaping issues. How much I have no idea. Kids actually believe all the BS how pot and it's by products are not only safe but helpful. Now we have two problems combining into one big issue.

As soon as the government taxes and regulates it....all will be good. Just look at cigarettes.

I dont understand what the draw to vaping is unless one is using it for a tool to quit smoking.

Most the time theses kids and adults sucking on this vape things look like they have a sex toy in their mouths.

Commercially produced vape products don't seem as bad, the home brews can obviously be a big problem.

But I personally don't care if it's as bad for the smoker, that's their choice, what I like about vaping is that it's not nearly as obnoxious as smoking to people other than the smoker.

Vape doesn't linger as much as smoking, you don't immediately smell a vaper from 200 yards away.

Plus vaping looks super ******y so it's fun to make fun of vapers.

I would like for everyone who smokes to start vaping so I don't have to smell their cigarette stank

Not sure how you put smoking weed and vaping together. I know a lot of people that smoke weed and a lot more people that vape. Many ( most)of them don’t do both. The vast majority of the ones that vape, started to quit cigarettes. Might as well throw in cigar smokers also, they are on the rise. And then the ones that started smoking because they drank alcohol, and now any time they drink they feel the need to smoke cigarettes ( seem to be preferred in this situation) I believe vaping is going to prove worse then all the others in time( health wise) , but the cigarette health scare, and now it’s the “ cool” thing to do, and the fact it taste good is what led 99% of the people ( kids included) to vape. Weed had nothing to do with it.

Yeah that home brew ( vape shop) stuff no telling what is in it , and I doubt a vape shop has many assets if legal recourse is needed

Actually our local news just did an article & interview with a Pulmonary Specialist at our local hospital saying they are seeing a rise in cases of pulmonary toxicity related to vaping. Seeing many cases with teenagers & in fact one is currently in ICU with the worse case of pneumonia they have ever seen. The MD mentioned the products contains aldehydes with potential of carcinogenic effects long term.
To sum up the interview: It sounds bad to me

mixing the vaping and marijuana issues is your own personal politics not facts.

we (humans) do this over and over-- get really into something and then figure out later after we've caused a bunch of damage that we don't know every dang thing.
DDT, thalydomide, asbestos, lead paint, CFCs, brown tree snakes in Guam... the list goes on and on.

Been seeing recent pushes on the news media about how dangerous vaping is. They'll show a case here, a case there etc. In my opinion, I feel like a lot of people have switched from smoking to vaping, big money coming out of the cigarette company's pockets. Personally I think this propaganda is being funded by the big money tobacco corps to stop the landslide. Now, I'm not saying that it's good for you to vape over smoke, they're both bad I'm sure, but you don't see the media covering every person that goes into the hospital with smoking related problems.

It seems to me that there is a lot of misinformation out there and the FDA is doing nothing to clear it up. From all I have read the people getting sick are not using JUUL or other mainstream products. They are using homebrew or counterfeit products made who knows where from who knows what ingredients. Another big chunk of people are getting ill from vaporized THC. The FDA throws all vaping in the same category probably because they don't want to sound like they are endorsing any nicotine delivery system. Obviously anything that is more likely to get kids hooked on nicotine at an early age is bad. Health authorities around the world have a varying opinions - for example the British government's public health administration contends that vaping nicotine is 95% safer than smoking cigarettes. I prefer to inhale only air into my lungs.

I am real dumb about vaping, is there some sort of oil in the cartridge that makes the vapor?
I see some of them oilfield hands hitting them pipes hard, they fill up the whole cab of a pickup truck with that smoke. Reminds me of Mongo on Blazing Saddles when he lights up that cigar.

At the risk of seeming insensitive, I don’t see the wisdom of banning vaping and legalizing weed. That seems to be the overall movement that I see. Why does government care about one and not the other ? You can’t pass laws against stupidity and you can’t change people’s morals with laws. Anyone remember prohibition ? It didn’t work. The “war on drugs” didn’t work. As a nation we are unwilling to do what’s necessary to even keep drunk drivers off the road. Sure, we’re willing to put your brother, father, sister, etc. away, but not our own. Our own deserves a second chance, then a third, ad infinitum. Vaping is the same. Parents, find out what your kid is doing and correct that behavior. IMO, kids have no rights when they are living at home except food, shelter, clothing, and protection. Everything else we give out of love. So spy, question, search their room, whatever it takes. That’s your job as a parent if you love them and want the best for them.

I'm not a smoker but if I did smoke I'd be lighting it with a match or a lighter
