    Vitals on axis?

Same as whitetail? Doing the rifle youth hunt at Garner this weekend. Never had an opportunity for axis. Shooting a 6.5 creed with 143 ELD X. From everything I’ve read about that hunt we need to anchor them pretty quick, they don’t allow any trailing.

6.5 creed only need to get close. If you tell the axis what cal you are shooting they will fall over dead.

Pierce them right behind the ear, that will keep you from trailing them. It’s called the madibular angle. Instantaneous death will occur. I’ve done quiet regularly with these big spotted b******s. They drop in their tracks and I can back my Jeep right up to them. **** they’re so big!!

A pellet gun from 100 yards could kill those creatures as fragile as they are

^ Exactly not true. But the ear shot is effective.

Vitals on Axis are not the same as whitetail. They are further forward.

Shoot them tight behind shoulders they won’t go far.

Only one I've killed was with my .25-06, 120-gr bullet right where kd350's pic shows, and he dropped in his tracks -- but -- when I walked up close enough to see him (he was over the crest of the hill and I shot him from a high blind) he was still breathing so I busted him again.
