Default Best Credit Card To Own?

I have a couple credit cards but I get zero 'rewards'. I just got back from NYC & the other 5 guys I went with either get cash back or their flights were free from their credit cards. All of their interest rates were higher than mine but I'm not willing to sacrifice my interest rate for rewards. I have $0 on one of mine w/a $7K limit (& it's been $0 for years) & have ~$1,000 on another one w/a $12K limit. Should I close the one I never use or leave it open?
Should I sacrifice an 11.9% APR w/no rewards for a 13.9% APR but has rewards?
Is flight miles or cash back better?
I have good credit if that matters.
Thanks!

Don't know which on is best, but I've used Discover for years. Get cash back on every purchase. Heck, I put a $12,000 foundation bill on it and got lots of cash back to apply to the bill. However, no matter how much is on the bill, I pay it off every month in FULL apply the cash to my balance to lower the payment.

I would sacrifice. I honestly wouldn't care if it was 20% because I won't carry a balance anyway. I have Chase Saphire Reserve and have been really happy with it and dealing with them. Fee is $450 but you get $300 of it back when spent on any travel (flight, hotel, etc). Get access to airport lounges and it also pays for your Global Entry/TSA precheck application. 3x points on travel and dining so more for travelers

If you carry a balance no rewards will offset that. I think the best rewards card is the 2.5% cash back card if you bank with USAA. No foreign transaction fee and no annual fee. The Chase and AMEX cards that earn good rewards have annual fees and the ones that don't cannot compete with the 2.5% cash back.

Cabela's was always a good one to have because you get points on every purchase that you can use at Cabela's.

AA advantage card is another good one if you travel much. Lots of perks and earn miles with every purchase.

the answer is none lol. Unless you use the CC and pay it off each month then there really is no benefit other than to have as an emergency fund. I use SW for great points and Amazon as well.

I have both basspro and cabelas. The thing is to not use your credit card unless you have the money to pay it off. On average, I spend 1-2k a month (for gas, groceries, basic needs, etc) and then I pay it off right away. Not a bad deal since I get a chunk of points I can use to buy new gear

I like my Citi double 2% card. Pay a lot of my bills with it and then pay that balance at the end of the month. Surprising how much builds up by just paying the phone bill, tv bill, etc. with it.

Interest rate dont matter if you pay it off each month. I got a chase card for points and use it instead of debit card and never pay any interest. Im almost up to 1K cash value and I got it in Jan of this year. My debit doesnt give me anything. Also you have more protections using credit card over debit.

That's impressive! Are the points only good for SW airlines? Kind of limits the use of the points but not too bad. I love Love Field!

Do you pay bills online w/it? Seems like that'd give me the most return but sounds like a PITA as well. Thanks.

Yep

I've now got around 160k points needing to be used. We usually have $4-5k in expenses a month on a card without major spending like vacations or toys and feel like the years of it on a debit card was a waste. Now I at least get something back

i've had many cards but the best one by far is my marriott visa - they have a signup bonus right now for 80k points. you start getting free nights in one of their level 1 hotels at 7500, so essentially a week free, so long as you spend 3500 within the first 3 months of having the card. annual fee is $89, but you get a free night stay in a hotel every year - so to me its a wash. you can use the rewards for things other than travel fwiw.

i'll send anyone on here a link to the offer if you want to sign up, plus i'll get 20k bonus points

I use the Capital One Venture card. I have no clue what the interest rate is(I pay it off monthly), but I do get 2 points for every dollar. I think the yearly fee is $80, but you can use your points for any airline, hotel, etc. I think you can even get gift cards.

American Express.

No interest. Small yearly fee. Great points program.

I put everything I can on mine and pay it before the 10th of the month. Works great.

Occasionally, but not often you get the 'we don't take amex'. Unless I really need their product or service I'll usually say thanks anyway and walk off.

They even have special access to hard to get stuff. Concert tickets, restaurant reservations, premium lounges in airports, etc

And you can stay in the good favor of Dave Ramsey.

Can you set it up online to pay bills like you can w/an online banking account? Or do you have to go to each individual website to pay each bill there? If I were to change then I would pay all my bills w/it & pay it off each month.

I have used a Cabela's card since 2000. I charge everything I can to it and pay it off every month. I use it for auto pay on my electric bill, satellite TV, satellite internet, cell phone, etc. I hardly ever carry cash so I use it anywhere I need to buy anything. I even charged my lumber and other materials when I built my home. They have raised my credit limit and dropped my interest rate even though I never carry a balance. I think it is under 7 or 8% now. I called them once when it was around 12% and asked them to drop it down. They asked my why and said you never carry a balance. I said I might one day, so they dropped to under 10% just because I called and asked them. I have gotten thousands of dollars worth of free goods from Cabela's over the years.

After searching several money/credit sites, it appears this card will fit me the best. I will get 2% cash back when I pay for anything, to use to pay for anything. It's not limited in any form or fashion on the savings or the spending!

The one item I won't be able to use it on is my mortgage, which none of them you can use on your mortgage, so it's not the cards fault.

I say it over and over. Get the card with the biggest sign up bonus. Most of us without a business wont spend much a month on their credit card. My spending on credit card are maybe $1000/mo. 1%, 2% or 2.5% isnt much when you only spend $12k a year.

If you can sign up for something like a Chase Sapphire card with 80k points as a sign up bonus, that is the way to go. I used to churn credit cards and the wife and I used 500,000 miles to fly around the world.

If you are not completely paying off your credit card each month, don't be enticed by "rewards." Go with the one with the lowest interest rate and get to paying it off ASAP.

On the other hand, if you are carrying no interest, then I suggest Capital One Venture card or the American Express Platinum. The Capital One Venture cards builds miles quick and has a nice sign up bonus. The Amex gives you all sorts of travel perks, global entry, upgrades, concierge service, access to lounges, etc.

If you are disciplined enough, pay off all your bills with one credit card and then pay that card off each month. You will build miles or points pretty quickly.

Im another vote for the Southwest visa, they also have a promo right now for 60k bonus points if you join. I also have a referral code that will get you more points too if you go this way.

Really depends on what youre looking for as a reward, Im on a traveling kick and love flying southwest so it just made sense for me. Lots of my friends have the AA Advantage as well but as far as cash back, im a fan of the Chase Sapphire.
