So Who Else Is Paying $1000/month For Health Insurance?

I went with Christian Healthcare Ministries. 450.00 a month for entire family. I am responsible for anything under 500.00.

Actually if we go we just ask for the cash pay rate and you would be surprised at the discount we get.

My daughter had to be seen for a hurt hand at the urgent care. For the X-ray, dr visit, and splint it cost me 142.00. My wife wants normal insurance but I explained that it would be 19,000 a year before insurance paid a dime.

Hey what's your referral info? I've sent this along to a couple people and one guy who's last day at work is today is going to be self employed soon and said he's going to look very closely into this. I was looking it over and seems you can get a free month if he puts your info into the referral portion on the app.

More like "...Bone the people for us..." is what's going on up there. Absolutely enfuriating. On top of all that, there have been massive amounts of folks lose their seats due to people voting them out to replace them with folks who supposedly will do the will of the people. And, most of thor who have been put into office to execute the will of the people have nearly immediately stepped in line with the rat bastages in the establishment. I have all but lost hope that we can take OUR government and country back. We have a bunch of week bitches for our "representatives" in government.

              Exactly.
For those paying over $1k per month...
              Do y'all work for companies?
If so, how many employees are employed there?

I just did mine and I pay about $120 per month but that's for my entire family and I have a bunch of extra add ons like $500k life insurance, short & long term disability, HSA money, vision and dental, spousal and kids life insurances (those are like one dollar per head).

I've never known anyone personally to have such high health insurance costs.

I'm sure I could go on healthcare.gov and find stuff cheaper than $1k

Oh and my wife gets free health insurance from her job but her doctor doesn't accept that insurance (it's a major one just that her doc don't accept it) so she's on my plan where we have to pay more for her being there.

Actually, the reason why my insurance is so low is because my company gives me rebates for being healthy.
I have a normal BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure, I'm not diabetic and I don't smoke.
Not smoking alone they give us $200 per month.
If I was a fat, hypertensive diabetic who smoked then I might have a $1k health insurance bill too!

My family has not gone to the doctor at all in the last 12 months (outside of my kids needing their regular checkup to get immunizations).
So that $1500 for the YEAR of premiums we paid was a profit for the insurance company.

Any independent contractors/self employed have any helpful ideas?
In reality we're funding the Ponzi Scheme using free health care to buy D votes. And nothing has been done to lower the cost healthcare. Here's an example, recently had a very simple medical test by a "specialist" and my cost was $45. That's the cash price of the test, using my insurance with a 20% co-pay it would have been $70. Total FUBAR!

Rather than go bare I would find a very high deductible plan so at least you have a backstop

no, the reason is your company subs your premium. what you see here people complaining is the real true cost of healthcare

I sold health insurance for 38 years and deal with this every day at my office. It is a mess.

If you work for a company and pay nothing or little for your coverage it is because your company in subsidizing it. Most of the examples here are from folks who are self employed and paying the full premium.
When ACA first came up I knew if would fail. How? Because the government took away the insurance companies ability to underwrite their risk - pre existing conditions had to be covered immediately. It would be the same as if a bank were required to give a loan to anyone who walked in their doors without asking for a financial statement or proof that person had the ability to pay the loan back. Banks would go under.

This is the reason the choices are so limited on individual health plans under ACA - insurance companies are getting killed on claims so they just dropped out of ACA or offering individual policies.

The sad part is that prior to ACA in Texas, even folks with pre existing conditions had an option for good coverage through the state plan. What has driven everyone's rates up so high (as shown in this thread) is simply the fact that insurance carriers were forced to cover everyone despite their medical condition - the result is what you are experiencing

                        Our plans went up.
280 a month for Wife, kids and me. 1500 deductible . My company is self
Insured and pays out millions and millions a year in medical costs. I am really surprised that they have kept our insurance affordable.

                          1. So in other examples of employer-employee relations, if you dont like the deal you're getting maybe you need to walk down the road and get a better deal elsewhere.

Folks need to really look at the total compensation package instead of only the salary portion.
That goes for vacation days included.

                          2. Since the health insurance companies can't exclude folks with pre-existing conditions (which includes you if you were to leave one company on Aetna then join another company who only has Cigna) the insurance company can no longer "stack the deck" with nothing but 100% healthy and purely profitable members.

Also, have you checked health insurance companies profit margins since ACA?
They haven't been in the red.

                            This!!

And the company paid premiums are more than likely a salary/pay decrease....
We pay one way or the other

I guess you are just ignorant with the way things work. As an individual or husband and wife you basically have to get your insurance through the exchange. You can't get a policy anywhere else. If you don't qualify income wise you are screwed and will easily pay $1000 each per month and quite possibly more. And that's for worthless insurance that you probably won't get to use unless you have a catastrophic event. If you are a fricking bum you will get it for free.

So if a husband/wife makes $70,000 a year they get to pay $25,000 for their health insurance. And they can't deduct that from their income tax.

But since you are in the business please check it out and get back to us with some better options. We are all ears!

We use a healthcare consultant to review plans and help us pick the best one to fit our needs. We literally have two providers in the market here, which are Christus and Blue Cross. Humana was in the market, but pulled out of individual coverage last year.

I’ve worked a few state jobs in the past. The insurance premiums are heavily subsidized to where you don’t realize the true cost.
