My girl daisy has been really bored lately due to my work and other commitments. She usually gets to go to the woods every weekend and chase critters, track hogs, bark at the wind, whatever. I felt sorry for her so I may or may not have done some suburban squirrel hunting today.
I've been trying to cross train her on squirrels but she doesn't like to bark. Well she treed one beautifully this time. Legs up on the big oak, looking up at the sky, barking like she's supposed to. So I rewarded her by pumping up the old Benjamin .22 caliber pellet gun (1955 model) and taking a fine bead on a big cat squirrel.
The squirrel hit the ground and Daisy nearly caught her in mid-air.
For you catahoula owners, you know that most of them have a mind of their own. She is usually well trained and responds to my command. I told her to heel and she took off with the squirrel. About 5 minutes later I caught up with her and there was nothing left but most of the tail hanging out of her mouth and a little hide.
I told her to drop it and she did.
So much for squirrel hunting with a catahoula.
Needless to say, she didn't eat all of her food this evening. She was quite full.
Now she's on Mamma's blanket taking a nap...very proud of herself.
The end.
