What is this, and how old?

I always enjoy the “what is this” threads. So I have one.

Found this metal detecting around the place the other day. Right off of a well traveled and very old route. I think it is an old radiator cap. Could be wrong though. Either way, I’d like to know use and age.









To add, it was coated in heavy rust when retrieved. I have done a 2 day vinegar bath.

I am going to say, 1950s to 1970s gas cap. Possibly a older radiator cap, but I would bet gas cap.

Refilling the gas out in the field after a hot day and a 12pk is how that usually happens.
