Hello All,
I didn't know about this website until I just read a post on the AT forums. Glad to know this is here and to be signed up, as a member.
I thought I would share my success from opening weekend:
I was lucky enough to get drawn on a WMA this year outside of Post, TX.
They allowed us to go scout and put up blinds/stands the weekend before season opened. After spending about two hours selecting my spot I put up my blind about 50 yards from a food plot and about 75 yards from water (between them both). I found where 10-15 trails met in one area and thought it seemed like a great spot to setup.
I setup two trail cameras and here are some pictures I got off of them:
After viewing my pictures I decided on what deer I wanted to go after (Mr. Long Tines) ...
Here is a rundown of how my hunt has gone so far:
Saturday morning (opening day) - Had tons of deer all around me. The only thing bad is they were so skittish that I couldn't even move.
Here is a video of 8 deer around me, at one point: http://***********************?v=PvO_--KQ5Xg
Saturday night - Again had a ton of deer around me. At 7:20pm the big boy came out and I waited until I thought I had a chance to draw and the second I lifted my bow a doe off to my right about 10' saw me and blew and everything ran off.
Sunday Morning - Didn't go due to I needed sleep.
Sunday evening - Went back and drew on a nice 8pt at 6:30pm. Decided not to shoot in case the big daddy came out. At 7:04pm two turkeys came out and at 7:06pm he stepped into my field of view. at 7:08 I made a 19 yard shot (pass through) he ran 50 yards and fell over on the trail.
WOOT!
Stats:
Age: 5 1/2 Years
Weight: 175# field dressed
Score: Gross: 143 6/8 Net: 138 7/8 (not dried yet)
Complaints: NONE!
