I have just acquired some land in colorado not much just 3 acres, but it sits on a 37,000 acre ranch. Since I oen land there I have access to hunt the whole ranch. just wondering what time of the year would be best for Elk and mule deer. If anybody knows of the area around San Luis I would appreciate any info. I know it is in unit 82 which is all private land so over the counter tags. and I know I have to put in for mule deer tag before april 15.

you dont really have a choice on what time of year as the seasons are short... as far as the elk either 1st season or thrid would be best. the good thing you have going is the private land. if you have any public land surrounding you you can hunt it too, but the pressure from other hunts should push the deer and elk to seek refuge on the private land.
