I'm wanting to take my son down to the coast Memorial day weekend and camp on the beach, do some shore fishing, and some fishing from the kayaks out past the big waves. What are some good areas to look at for this? Anyone wanna try to meet up? It'll be our first time to try this, and I'm wanting to learn!

Me and Chris (Stickman) had a good outing hitting the Port A rocks yesterday evening. Caught us some monster jacks and a couple of nice kings along with many big mackerel. All our fish were caught on big shallow divers.

This weekend weíll be using them jacks to try and win a shark tourney.

Same here. Water was a little chilly but beautiful, lots of bait, not much for trout. I caught one that was around 24", and a few smacks. Beat the hell out of working though.

Been hammering on those endangered snapper when weather permits. Iíve been fishing some great state water spots way down south. I hit a few spots for vermillion this week and caught (released) some sows in about 250 feet of water. Canít wait for federal season to open.

Yep. That was me. I was trying to hang around until the tide turned hoping the bite would turn on, but I got called in to work so I had to boogie.

We fished till 1230 or so and it never turned. The fish did seem to pick up a hair but as you know it was a grind today.

We finally learned the trout seemed to hang out under those huge rafts of mullet

Yeah that's where I caught my trout. There was millions of little 3/4" menhaden with birds crashing on them, I figured there would have been fish with them but there was nothing. I think the water is still just a little too cold. Another couple weeks and it'll be on.

This was exactly my day in the surf between access 5 and the pass. 1 trout 24" at 10:00.. Caught it on a Mirrordine. Junked everything in my box.. Gave up at 11:30. Talked to several throwing live shrimp and they were skunked..

I'm thinking about hitting it again here shortly..

We must have been pretty close. I usually fish down by the cars when I fish SS. I had to work today, going to East Matty in the morning. I'll wait it for it to warm up a bit before I try it again.

Good luck boys, hit west Matty on Wednesday evening and 3rd cast out of the boat a 22 inch trout, last one caught but the redfish were stacked on top of each other. Caught 15 or so easy limit, left them biting.

Did anyone else have to grind it out today? I fished from 9am till 4pm in West matagorda. Didnít pull a fish out of the water. Gamewardens pulled in behind me at the ramp in palacios. Said that the only people they checked who had fish, had gone offshore and caught some snapper.

With the windy conditions, was the water dirty most places you fished?

Also, what direction was the wind from, and how strong were the sustained winds?

I know that exact spot, pipeline cut is what we call it. Surprised you didn't do well, I fished just west of there Wednesday and the reds were on top of each other... easy limits... trout was another story. Only picked up one..

The wind picked up out of the south/south west at about 10-15 with gusts to about 20.

Up shallow <1-2 you could see bottom, over that it was green but the wind had it churned up

I tried trolling and doing some sight casting just before cotton, but didn’t see anything but bait. There was an absolute crapton of bait. Just no redfish.

Went out today and caught two reds in carancahua, put one in the box at a whopping 20 1/8”. Gonna eat good on the grill one night this week.

Thatís what we call it as well. I was going to attempt to run a bit further in, but the tide was a bit too low. There was a ton of mullet and bait fish in there.

Some pics from today

Got the boat washed and put under the house. Ready for next time. Hopefully in 2 weeks Iíll be back. Might try to venture to POC.
I bet it was an absolute mad house there this weekend with the gorgeous weather and the crawfish fest. Heck on Saturday the ramp in palacios looked about like froggies, so I can only imagine.

Also I wet waded the entire weekend and the water felt dang good. Definitely glad I didnít bring the waders.
