Last time at LJS was early 90's and experienced the same result as OP. Have never considered it since.

This thread is great. Brings back the memory of my wife and I making a trip to Arkansas to stay with her parents. We were 1/5 of the way to their place and my wife asked to get dinner. The two options I saw were Whataburger and LJS. I don't know why in the world she chose LJS, but I went to Whataburger after to get my food. But she no more than finished her meal and asked that I pull into a Walmart. She asked herself the same question...Why do I do this to myself? I know this happens every time I eat there. LOL I was dying laughing.

I remember my last LJS meal, it was when the gun show was moved from Broadway over to Marbach in San Antonio. There was a LJS nearby and I ate lunch there. Headed over to the gun show and made it thru one aisle and got the bubbling guts. Heel walked to the restroom and pulled my britches down, laid on my side on the floor and wept.
Never really wanted to go back after that rodeo.

About once per year I'll have a craving for LJS. As stated, better have a can nearby within a few hours.

Not sure what it is, but a few times, it didn't bother me much at all; however, a few other times, it practically flew right through me.

I used to crave it more often, but much prefer Popeye's if I want my grease fix on nowadays.

I feel dirty going into LJS but I still go, alone cause my wife refuses. It is disgusting and I love it. I don't even know what I am eating when I order the sampler plate but I pride myself on concocting some amazing dip combinations. I leave there feeling like I just ran over a baby kitten but I will return, I always return.

I have the same issue with LJS. Not to mention several other fast food places....McD's, Wendy's, Sonic. Sometimes you just gotta get your fix. But, like so many others on here, I fell like crap after I eat it. Is there such a thing as crap food remorse?

I get it once a year for these places. AND , now that I have read this thread, I need a LJS fix.

Ahhh.. Brings back memories... If I wanted wheels (a truck) in high school, I had to have a job. On my 16th birthday, I walked into LJS, and walked out with said job! I spent 2 1/2 years working there until I got out of school, and got a job with Schlumberger..
In those years, I never saw anybody mistreat the food. Of course, I grew to dislike it because I ate so much of it... It took me years to go back, but I finally did, and enjoyed it.. Those hushpuppies would give me incredible gas!! They closed the one here in Baytown years ago... Now it's a taco shop. Surprise!!

I get the LJS craving now and then but I kick it by going to BJs Brewhouse and order the fish and chips from the menu. The fish is LJS like but not as greasy and the thin cut fries are much better! They also have Malt Vinegar which is a must! Plus, the many choices of their house brewed beer and the fact that they stock my bourbon of choice, Knob Creek seals the deal.

For me it's about once a year. The cravings are real though and out of no where. Usually about halfway through I look at my box of food and question my life choices.

Their fish is a grease sponge. If I eat it I'll take a stack of about 10 napkins, put the fish on them with about 5 more napkins on top, then press down on the stack. Grease with soak into all the napkins. At least I'm getting some of the grease out.

Let me start by saying each of us have approx. 1.5 kg of bacteria (about as much as a 3.3 lb bass) between the esophagus and lower intestine. Most of it is harmless and helps our body regulate the production of everything from tears to semen. Your occasional LJS craving could be due to an active outbreak of a strain of gut biome in the Ruminococcus genus.

I did my med school thesis and residency studies on the frequency of complications in tonsillectomy surgeries within 3 miles of fast food restaurants and concluded that foodborne illnesses commonly found in places like LJS are typically the result of gut biomes from many different sources being mixed and then activated by heat lamps and frying activities. In simplest terms, one employee touching the genitals of another employee with a warm hand or foot could accelerate bacterial growth 5x to 10x.

Nothing terrible!

Had a co-worker talk a bunch of us into going a few years back. It had to have been at least 12-15 years since I had eaten LJS. I absolutely love the chicken planks, but that visit will probably tide me over for another 10-12 years.

It had been maybe a year since my last meal at an LJS. Was in Sulphur Springs and decided to stop at the Taco Bell LJS. Ended up getting their chicken planks and maybe a couple pieces of fish. Donít know why I got the urge for to waste money on that type food.
