What to do around New Braunfels?

My wife and I are heading to the New Braunfels area tomorrow. We usually hang around Gruene or float when we go, so we got to talking this morning and we'd like to see more of the area. Anything in the NB area you'd recommend to check out?

Check out Canyon Lake, some really neat spots there. My wife and I spent the afternoon there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

Drive up Purgatory road and see Devil's Backbone. Stop by the Fischer store in Fischer.

Go to Freiheit store and have a beer with a TBHer

Thank you all for your recommendations. We went down Purgatory Rd, the Devil's Back bone as we made our way to Canyon Lake. Went back down River Road and finally back to Gruene for dinner. It was hot, but we had a great time. Thanks again!
