Default 2018 Panhandle Hunting Thread (6th Annual!)

OK boys and girls, let's get this sucker started!

It's time to crack open the 2018 Panhandle Hunting Thread. The age classes have had another year to recover and despite the lack of rain in some parts, we lift up a quick prayer that it will be a great year. Amen!

Please post all your panhandle hunting observations, successes, whatever... The season is just around the corner.

Best of luck to all the Panhandle Boys and Girls! Here's to a safe and successful year! Godspeed and safety to all.

[Cue: the requisite disclaimer...]

NOTE: Occasionally, some folks have wandered into the previous years' threads in hopes of exerting influence on how panhandle deer hunters should manage their herds, and belittling those who disagreed with their opinions, i.e., shooting does, or not. Those posts were reported and removed.

While that argument may have merits in another management thread, it has no place in this thread. Like past years, any hostile posts (management or otherwise) will be reported and removed as the mods see fit.

Let's just keep this thread about soaking up the great outdoors, enjoying time with family and friends, and counting our everlasting blessings. Of course, LDPs are always welcome, if not mandatory.

nice job on the trash pandas. Keep running the traps. I filled mine for 6 trips in a row before they started realizing they were a bad thing.

I'm new to the panhandle, only been here since first of the year., I'm an Army recruiter in Lubbock, and have been having trouble finding a place to do some hunting. If anyone here could possibly point me toward some public land, or a farmer/rancher that would let me hunt there land I would be ecstatic. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Welcome to the flatlands.

Might want to check around Lake Alan Henry for hunting opportunities. Not sure if it is with the lake or with TP&W.

We have been lucky. Rain at our place has been plentiful but I know driving thru Garza and parts of Kent counties, some places are like a desert! All our ponds are full right now.

Age classes finally coming back in. Things looking pretty good. Need rain though, been really dry. There will be some good deer killed this year for sure.

Called a sounder of hogs up in my lap the other evening while calling coyotes. Glad I was carrying my AR and not a bolt gun on that one. Things got interesting for a minute or two. Time to start putting a hurt on them.

Coyote pups have left the dens, they are out roaming. Been killing some of them.

Too early for me to start getting excited about deer yet.

Duzy- I think I agree with Hoss. Unless you're on a lease with strict age restrictions, and assuming the racks tickle your fancy (hint, hint), both need the air let out of 'em.
