    BP MS-150 Houston to Austin

Started as a fitness goal for myself.

The fundraising almost kept me from signing up.
I didn't want to ask anybody for money.
The outpouring of support has been surprising.
Many of my friend’s families have loved ones dealing with MS.
    And I had no idea.

If anybody on TBH has MS, family members or friends affected by MS, I am happy to ride for them, raise awareness and hopefully my small contribution will help.
Feel free to share their (or your) story if you’d like.

The team I’m riding with has raised almost $180,000 for research.

    It’s my first time.
Ride 100 miles on Saturday, sleep on the ground, ride 70 the next day should be a worthy test on this out of shape old man.

    Anybody else riding?

My wife did the whole ride by herself with no team basically because I said she couldn't... Great for raising awareness.

Thank you for what you are doing! My wife Mary has MS. I rode two years ago. I was in a car crash and haven’t ridden since. I miss it, but my neck and back can’t take it. God bless you!

Ready or not, It's this weekend.

            Team Tacodeli has raised $190,000.

My friend's wife guides for Casting For Recovery.
A non-profit that provides fly-fishing adventures for women affected with breast cancer.

I'll wear this sweet new jersey on Day 2.

That’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to ride the MS-150.

Good Luck - Keep the rubber side down... and will pray for a nice cool tailwind for you!

I did the MS150 5 years in a row several years back (almost a decade or more.) - always the full 187 miles and always through the park. I gave it up mainly to pursue the racing scene and the large crowds at the MS150 started to become too much of a hazard. When I gave up the racing scene I'd just train for 100+ mile events like the Tour de Cure.... eventually the bow hunting bug hit hard... and spending time in the outdoors away from the pavement was more enjoyable... I finally gave it up after a full decade of riding and racing.

Enjoy the event. I wouldn't mind doing it again one last time before all is said and done. I had a lot of good memories on the road between Houston and Austin... Made more than my fair share of deposits into the "pain bank" that helped me along in life.

My hat is off to you for trying, and good luck to you, sir. Great event, and that jersey has a great logo.

It’s definitely a great charity with one of the best percentages going to the cause. I rode the MS-150 11 years in a row before calling it quits. Do the start at Tully Stadium, the Rhodes Stadium start cheats you out of bragging rights for a 100 mile ride to all the non cycling types. Remember, there’s beer in LaGrange.

I still miss the 2nd day ride through Beuscher State Park. Don’t take the bypass around the park. It’s like a roller coaster on two wheels. Hammer all the way through it, even on the downhills and easy gears on the climbs. There’s time to rest in Bastrop only a few miles away.

When you start getting into Austin, it’s not time to slack off either. Drive it home all the way to the finish. Don’t forget cheer in those behind you too.

Last tip is don’t load up too heavy. I used to keep Powergel and CarBoom in my pocket. I liked to keep 2 insulated water bottles with half strength Gatorade. Camelbacks are fine but if you drink one empty, it’s just annoying shifting around on your back.

                          Done.
                          Buttocks was sore.
                          Like really sore.

                          The good:

The ride raised $10,728,000 for research.

                          The bad:
166.8 miles in pretty stout winds.
                          16.2 mph average
                          5,312 vertical feet of climbing
                          12,180 calories burned

                          And the ugly:
                          The finish.

My spirit animal visited me in an endorphin-overload dream.
A 2020 TBH MS-150 team would be killer.
