Santa Monica fishing?

I have to go Los Angeles area for a funeral next week never been
I was reading you can fish off Santa Monica peir any one been there what kind of fish is there and is it worth it to take my son ?

Croaker is what I’ve caugjt most. Has been years.

I've been several times, to piers from Long Beach to Santa Monice and further. IMO I will take piers on the gulf coast over the west coast any day. I've caught mackerel, surf perch, white croaker, and seen people catch bonita, and stuff I couldn't identify. Seeing Seals and the occasional whale is cool/different though. Lotta hot girls too, so if the fish don't bite, you can always peruse the local talent .
Also if you go up or down the coast out of LA, the tide pools are fun to dig through. Full of starfish, weird crabs and a host of other creatures.

I was station at Pendleton.....you can get into a lot of good and bad there but I assure you it won’t get dull..... them beach girls are by far better than the fishing
