The rut was cranked up this morning and it paid off big!
This was the first time My dad got in the stand all year. He's getting arthritis and is having to put down the bow... It started off slow in both stands. We knew the rut was bangin so we were looking for some bone heads! Both of us had the same story starting off, we were both watching 6 doe for the first hour.
My dad called me at about 8 and asked how it was going and to tell me, "Heads up!" a MONSTER just caught him off guard and pushed a HARD thru his area just now and they were heading my way.
"OK, bye"
About 30 seconds later, "Booooom"
I of-course called him back immediately!
Me "Did he come back?"
Dad "No, a different one came in!"
Me "Did you get him!"
Dad "I don't know! I think I missed!"
Me "Well calm down, I'll be over there in a little bit and we'll...."
Dad interrupted... "Wait wait!!! There's another one!"
"Boooom"
Me "Did you get him!"
Dad "Heck NO!!! What's going on here???!!!???"
Me "You NEED to calm down!"
Dad "OMG!!! Another one!"
"Boooom"
Me "That was your last shell! Did you get him?"
Dad "That one slapped the ground!"
Me "Yeaaaaahh Baby!"
Dad started laughing and said, "Theres a 4 pt and a doe that's under my feeder that never moved! Lol"
Me "Good, I'm hungry too and need a doe! You're outta bullets, and I'm on the way!"
Dad calls me as I'm walking over there and say, "Can you see that doe yet?"
Me "Just her head." I was walking up a hill...
Dad "OMG! Another buck just came out!"
Me "Bullsiit!!!"
Dad "I swear!!! He 20 yards on my side of the feeder and coming my way!"
I had some ground to make up!!!
I was on the opposite side of his feeder with the buck walking briskly away from me! I took off in a dead sprint! I got the deer in sight and he was about 175-200 yards off still walking away from me. I'm still running with a phone to my ear and a rifle in my other hand!!! Gaining ground using little bushes to run behind. My dad started whistling and grunting trying to make the deer stop. I kept telling him, "STOP!!! Be quiet! I'm not ready!"
It really didn't matter cause the buck was def from the booms or love... Which ever it was he wasn't worried about my dad in the least bit. Lol
Dad "Where are you?"
I ran by his brushed in stand, "Right here, now quit whistling! I was catching up to him!"
Dad "hhhhahahahahah!!!" Laughing his but off! The deer never noticed me and I was hauling tail right behind him! Made it to within 100-125 yards and pulled my gun up.
Dad "Shoot him! shoot him!"
Me "I can't catch my breath!!! I can't get steady!"
I ran 29 more yards and grabbed a tree to help steady my shot.
I was a fat kid that just scored a touchdown and was gasping for air by this point. Lol
He was still headed away from me when I got my scope on him. Heavily panting waiting fir him to turn.
Didn't take long. I held my breath and as soon as I got on target and he turned broadside, "Boooom"
The deer jumped and hunched the shoot. Went 30 yards and crashed!!!
I thru my fists up in the air to rejoice while thanking God!
Dad "Did you get him!"
I started laughing so hard!!!
He came and joined me and we went to look at the deer.
Awesome AWESOME day!!!
My dads was a little less than stellar so he asked that I not post his but it was a small 10 point. I don't know why it matters cause they were both great deer!
Here's mine and my biggest to date!
Nothing worth a TV appearance, but big to me and a memory that I'll never forget!
Please give me an idea of what you think he'll score! He's going on my wall no matter what! Partly because he's my biggest and partly because I want to never forget!
He's a mainframe 10 with a 3 inch and a 1.5 inch kicker on his right brow and 2 - 1.5 inch kickers on his left brow. That was at 8:15am or so and I'm still stoked!!!
