I've been watching this guy all fall, he hits a new feeder daily, but passing on him as he had great potential and a very young buck.

    C'est la vie

Sounds like you should be having this talk with your nephew.

Been there. Painful. Just curious, how old is the nephew? Old enough to know better or not?

The only thing that lets them grow where I hunt are antler restrictions. Cooters surrounding me with "If it's brown it's down" mentality...Game management to them is what ratio of burger to steaks they're gonna do with the deer they whack n stack.

The talk should've been before this.

Yes, yes it was. Can you imagine what he could have been in 3!

Not my position, that is my dad's place to discuss. Dad like shooting big deer, but not as much as the joy on his grandkids' faces when they kill one....

That does suck in a way, but hopefully it meant a lot to him.
If not, at least he didn't get hit on the highway. That's what I always tell myself.

He is a freshman at Angelo State, but grew up mostly overseas in a Missionary Family so he does not have a great deal of experience

I hope if your nephew is under 18 you had the good taste to keep your thought to yourself.

In 4 more years that deer would have still just been a deer. It is a deer, not a Elk not a Moose.

If you own the land, more power to you.
If it belongs to your Mom, I hope she told you to go pound sand.

Man it sucks but sounds like a rare and big accomplishment for the kid. Hopefully it's a good stepping stone for him in learning to age/management deer down the road but at the same time a big congratulations to him.
