    Axis 09 Prequest

It's just over a month before the axis quest starts again. We've got 8 weeks this year. Hopefully more of the axis will be completely out of velvet. I've been spending time going through my DVD's, capturing pics. Thought I'd post pics of some deer that made it through our hunt last year. Give the guys something to look forward to, especially the new guys.

There were a lot of bucks. Some off the RADAR last year my grow enough to get our attention. Some might not have made it due to neighbors, natural mortality, or getting killed before they shed. I'll just post pics of some candidates that should be super this year with any growth at all.

Here's one that I'll be looking for right off the bat. He has the longest Caddles of the deer that I saw. Similar to the deer I killed last year, but probably 15 to 20 inches bigger.

I call him LC. Grest brows and Long Caddles (LC)

This rascal I called Curly Cue. I probably should have taken him as my second deer, but I was on the trail of Skid Mark and once I lock on, it's hard to change. I let several good ones walk the same way. CC is bladed a lot like the five deuce. Great brows with the little curl on the end of the right one. I had him under 20 yards a lot. Anxious to see what he does this year.

          Mailman loves this deer.

This is the first buck that I really had a chance to kill last year. He was free of all velvet earlier than most. I passed him quite a few times. I know. I'm crazy. Bobby passed him the first time he hunted also. Then he said he'd kill him the next time he came in. Mailman will kill him first time he comes out and he and I will probably sit on that spot waiting for him.

Long beams. Decent spread and mass. Average points. But, BOY does he look good when he comes in. I call him Pentagon from the shape of the five dots on his left side.

This buck is another one high on my list. Probably should have shot him instead of Skid Mark, but again I was on a mission. I call him One-Eyed Jack. His left eye looks to be gone. He's good about everywhere. Really similar to LC. Maybe wider. Maybe a little heavier. TInes may be a little shorter. Great buck. Got my heart going.

John, you should have shot one eyed jack. I remembered watching the video in camp. I can't believe you passed him. I hope he is still around.

                              Mike and I are pumped!
