    Climbing stick attachment options/mods

I did not come up with any of this on my own

I have a few sets of Lone Wolf sticks
I replaced the straps on a set of 4 a few years ago before I knew anything about other options
I bought a set recently and started looking for options to the factory straps that cost $10/strap

    Factory straps:
    $10/ea ($40+ per 4 stick set)
Max length is 5’6” can be extended by purchasing optional extension

    Prussic/ 8mm accessory cord:
Price varies but .60/ft is common
You lose around a foot with knot/loop
6’ strap will run around $4.20 ($16.80+ per set)
Max length is as long as you want to make

I got info from this video

    1/8” Amsteel daisy chain:
Again price varies but around .50/ft but you have to double up so ends up around $7.50 ($30+ per set)
    I got 7’ out of 15’ length

This video shows how to make the daisy chains

Biggest cost savings is the 8mm

Factory straps have a large metal buckle that is heavy and can be noisy if it bangs on the strap

If you are a lightweight freak you will want to go with the Amsteel

    Factory strap weighed 6.9oz (27.6oz/4)
    8mm 6’ strap 3.35oz (13.4oz/4)
    1/8” Amsteel 7’ 1.2oz (4.8oz/4)[emoji15]

Hope this helps anyone that is needing new straps or just wanting to save weight

Mine are 9’ and there realistically ain’t a tree I can’t climb. I locked in a large hair tie to secure the loose end. Better/same as elastic cord.... without a knot. ... I hate knots

Does that 1/8 amsteel hold up well? Was just doing some research on this.

Don't know the answer to that as I just made these

But since this is the same stuff used in place of steel cable on a lot of offroad winches I think it should

I can cut pennies in half with my cutco super shears... and they struggle on amsteel. It’s ridiculously tough.

            And so light it floats

That’s how I have mine set up. Love that mod way more than the straps. Quiet, quick, and easy.

I have some on my sticks that are 7/64 whoopie slings.
But liking the 1/8 daisy chain looks much easier.

I'm running the 1/8 amsteel daisy chains. They are the only way to to. Takes a little while to make them but worth the effort.

I prefer 7/64 Amsteel. Mine are 9ft also.
