Depends on what you think "expensive" is.

Like part of my life's philosophy (quote my self): "It's all a matter of what you compare it with."

The fish are biting. And there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

Ummmm ooook that was weird...
Expensive to me would be do they charge outrageous fees to outta state hunters, plus fees for a day lease of say $1000 or more for a 3 day hunt...or do they have alot of free public land that 1 from outta state can hunt on?

What is "outrageous"?

And nothing "weird" for someone to having a set of rules to live by. Or developing a life's philosophy. What I was getting at is it's all relative. Think Einstein.

The fish are biting. And there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

Thanks for the offer. But I'll be occupied in my second home. Besides, I don't wanna pass out from the heat. Then have to have you preform CPR on me while waiting for the local EMS to arrive/find us. That might create a lot of stories and rumors around that area. And I'd have to listen to it every time I'm down there.

I'll just wait till it cools down a good bit.

Hope we get some rain pretty soon. The Brazos river basin is not looking well. And the further west ya go, the worse it looks. There are only 3 lakes of the 41 lakes in a ACE Ft. Worth district that are at or above normal. 2 are in the Red River basin. And the other is in the Neches basin. Drought will cause hay harvest to go down forcing a lot of cattle to the market. It will mean low meat prices in the short run. But higher prices in the long run till stock inventories increase for ranchers. That will take a few years.

On the other hand, the lower lakes will cause a lot of vegetation growth out on the shorelines/beaches. And if it continues, then we get good rains come Sept and Oct, it could flood that vegetation a bit. And create another great duck season like we had in 2009.

All areas have game but they get lots of pressure. Spend a lot of time scouting different areas and don't be afraid to move if you're not seeing anything. Also don't leave anything valuable. Quite a few rattlesnakes and copperheads in some areas so I would definitely recommend some good snake boots. I've never been struck at but almost stepped on them multiple times

Fixed it for ya
There are areas that you might get a bit of resistance if you try to hunt certain units. If you see evidence of people "claiming an area" don't hesitate to contact the headquarters.

In the last 3 years out there,Ive yet to see a single snake. Im 110% sure they are there, but I stll wear snakeguards till first couple freezes and always watch where I step no matter the time of year. Now watch I say,I aint seen 1 out there in 3 years Ill find one this season lol
Just hope its going the other way or its a Ratsnake,Kingsnake or another cool non venomous one,Im the odd one that loves snakes. What woud be awesome to find eould be a Horney Toad. That would make my season

I am not asking for specific areas but from the surveys it seemed like the most hunted compartments were right outside the state park at Whitney. Has anybody had success on H-7 or seen a lot of deer? Is there slot of people accessing some of these spots from boat?

I seen few folks on here (and one of my former co-workers I know has) launch canoes and boats up into some parts,in a effort to get away from folks

H7 has deer even some nice ones I hunted there a couple times last year and ran my camera there a bit got a few good pictures of does and while scouting I found some nice big tracks. The problem with it was that itís a real pain to get the boat set up and get out there in the early am. I havenít decided if I want to try again this year.

I have notice that there are several compartments on both lakes that seem to have better access by boat. Has anyone done this and are boats safe left unattended while hunting for the most part?

Stan, lot of folks access via boat, I've never had an issue with leaving my boat on the bank. Nor have I heard of any issues. I have been more worried about where I park my truck considering how well patrolled the ramps are.

Appropriate timing on this comment. Had about a quarter tank in my truck when I parked the other day, got back from a hike to head home and I was on empty when I started the truck up. Luckily I had just enough left to get to a gas station.

Your not the first to ask for help on where to go on public lands. And I've seen it ruin some places. And others besides my self get burned. So I just keep my mouth shut now on where to go.
Like I said, learning the land is the best thing you can do.

I didn't grow up in a hunting family. Had to learn it all on my own. But I have helped lots of others. Just that some of that help has led to a demise of the places I go.

Now, if I run into you out there and you want to ask me what something is, show me. And I might give you an answer pending what it is.

Let me guess ISP, Nolan/Lakeside or the west ramp on Aquilla?

The Nolan is the place I worry about the most, hate that ramp. I'll boat up from Plowman or down from Kimball just to stay away from that ramp.

Stan, back to the boating in. Later in the fall/winter on cold mornings, at least north/west of Lakeside, you need to be out well before sunrise. Too close to sunrise and the fog has a tendency to build, and I'm talking cut it with a machete bad. Not sure if it is the same downlake on Whitney or Aquilla. Since, I have the route marked with my GPS, still have to go slow, but it's better than having to stop and wait an hour or two until it clears.

Few years ago I rode on the front of a aluminium v-bottom on Aquilla, not going to say who was driving the boat, I was laying on ice across the front bow, may have been holding a yeller lab while going to duck hunt. That was the last time I duck hunted, you guys can have it.
