Matagorda Surf?

Heading down to Matagorda tomorrow for the weekend. Anybody know if it will be worth taking the poles to fish the surf. Hopefully we don't get rained out the whole weekend. Mainly going so the daughter can play in the sand but thought I might throw some shrimp out.
also, anybody know how the driving conditions are on the beach?

I would like to run down in the morning, but I've missed the bite so many times, its hard to get out of bed at 3 am.
