"not going to be picky", "let one just over 8 ft go" HMMM seems a bit contradictory.
Keep at it Doc. Enjoy the trip.

What's that saying?

Don't let the one pass today if you'd shoot it on the last day.

I hope Iím not being picky. I set my sights at a bear that looks good and is about 8 and 1/2 or better. Iím hunting a draw tag in perhaps the best place to bowhunt brown bears there is. I donít think thatís too picky but Iíll see. One of the rifle guys killed a bear that is going to be pushing 10 feet! We ended up seeing 15 bears today. 11 were sows and cubs. Only the one stalk. The other boars rapidly left the beaches. Tomorrow is another day and if possible we will hunt and fish!

This guy greets you at the boat dock.

This is the little ďcrappieĒ jig I was using today to catch lingcod. Was trying to dredge up a halibut.

Our rockfish baits.

Lots of these guys around.

Another great morning and I got close twice. First stalk we got in on a bear on a rocky beach. We were about 25-30 yards with arrow nocked. I was about to step out from tall rocks we used as stalking cover and I felt wind hit the back of my neck. Next thing you hear rocks rolling and the bear is running up a grassy hill and getting out of there. We had been right at 25 yards and he was over an 8 1/2 foot bear!

The other bear was even bigger. Watched him going through some rocks and headed for a beach. We went in to cut him off bad for some reason he hung up on the rocks above us and spotted us. He was 47 yards and pretty steep angle above but no shot. Wind swirled again and he was gone.

I think we saw 9 bears total this am and caught 3 man limits of rockfish. We release 10-12 lingcod up to 30 pounds. Pretty good morning. Looks like wind is laying down a bit and we are headed back out in an hour. Just need one bear to make a mistake!

There is a bunch of rockfish and they get lumped in to pelagic and nonpelagic. The dark one is a black rockfish or Black Sea bass and the orange one is a yelloweye. Both good eating!

Been following along quietly. Living vicariously thru you Doc! I have been fortunate to have caught yellow eye, rockfish, lingcod but never chased a bear with a bow. Good luck in your quest and thanks for taking the time to share your hunt on TBH!

Sorry about the lack of an evening update. Got back at 11 pm
And I was soaked and freezing! Took a shower and crashed. We ended up seeing 19 bears yesterday. Had two good stalks last evening. First one we parked the boat about 3/4 of a mile from the beach. Snuck through the woods and got there. Bear had fed out in to center of beach. We worked around and got to 60 yards. I started looking for windows to shoot and trying to cut another 10-20 yards. Bear finally heard me and spooked. Crap! These guys are way harder to approach than black bears!!!!! Snuck up on another and it ended up being a giant old sow. I passed at 49 yards. Today is day 4. Lets see what happens!!!

Had a good day but no bear kill. Saw 9 bears today. Stalked one bear and we cut him off coming toward us. We finally had perfect wind and cover. Jordan was ranging him as he cane in. I hit full draw with bear at 30 yards. He kept coming. He never turned broadside and finally saw us when he got to just under 5 yards!!!!! This was an 8 1/2 foot bear. Quite a rush. Had one other stalk but ran out of cover at 120 yards. All the bears so far are in summer coat. Will keep giving it a go. Did have another awesome midday meat haul fishing and plan on more hunting and fishing tomorrow. Getting towards only one daytime low tide. May mean more fishing and less good hunting time.
