I will start this thread, by stating that if you want to be humbled and grow closer to God, pack an elk off a mountain above 12,000' by yourself. I already lean on Jesus for everything, but I will say we were that much closer on Friday.
5yrs, 6 hunts and 4 scouting trips went into this bull. Not sure how many miles were hiked; how many nights were spent in a spike camp above tree line or how much money was spent on gear, tags and travel.
I started stalking the group this bull was in at 6:15am. I shot this bull at 8:18am, 1.9 miles from camp and 3.8 miles from the truck (I was able to move the truck closer to the kill site so the meat pack was a little over 2miles). At 9am I finally put my hands on him and began the process of breaking him down. At 4:07pm the last load of meat was in the cooler.
I thank God for the opportunity to take this animal and for all of the lessons learned and struggles over the last 5yrs. I am a far better hunter and am stronger mentally and physically as a result of these experiences.
