So, I was an athlete all through school. When my son was born 10 years ago, I couldn’t wait to start him playing baseball, football, all the stuff I did with my dad growing up.
Alas, God had different plans for us, and diagnosis of a heart defect all but eleiminated all of those plans.
Luckily my son decided he would rather use his brain than run anyways. We (my son and his two friends, and us three dads) started a math pentathlon team this year. The big competition was today, and my son was only one of ten players to win all five of his games today, out of around 300 other kids! He and I worked hard all year long, and to see his joy when he made the “hall of fame” was all worth it! I may never get to see him play in a playoff football game, or hit a home run, but today was just as good I promise!
