    Menard County Turkey Success!

Got my best Gobbler to date this morning. 10" beard 1 1/8" spurs, he came in looking to whoop my jake decoy. Gonna try to get the wife her first one this afternoon, she's not much on morning hunts.

Congrats and good luck putting the wife on one. Late morning and middle of the day is a good time to find those lonesome toms looking for love.

Nice bird! Those jake dekes are getting a lot of toms in trouble this year.

Well today didn't go as planned. The wife and I were standing up the skinning rack and I told my daughter to get back away while we were pulling it up with the truck, but I didn't think about where my dog was. When it came down the metal plate on the bottom of the leg came down on her foot. I didn't even notice she was standing there when we started. We took her to a vet in Kerville where they took X-ray and told us three of her toes were broke. She is resting now and we are going to have to take her to a specialist Monday in Houston to schedule surgery since Vet says they will need to put pins in two of them. I thank god that her injury was not life threatening as I know it could have been much worse.

Sorry to hear about the dog, but want to congratulate you on your bird. I’m chomping at the bit to get out to a buddy’s lease just outside of menard, but it’s looking like I won’t be able to until the first weekend of May. Late season is tough. May have to resort to ambushing them over a water source. They gobbled good on the roost last year late season, but were very quiet throughout the day.

Glad the injury wasn't worse on the pup. Was getting worried as I read it. Hope she recovers fully.

Thanks. I hope they can fix her up at the specialist, she loves to bird hunt too much to loose the use of her foot. When it first happened I thought it was going to be much worse and the bones were shattered, but the vet in Kerville thinks it will heal properly if set correctly with pins.
